Hi DragHeads !
I have (finally
) found the FIA page about dragracing, and there is also an ET section (1,1A).
http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.nsf/2D30912A6...
This surprised me a little bit, I thought the FIA would only deal with FIA classes.
However, the ET groups have different indexes :
FIA groups are
Sportsman : 13:00 - 19:99 sec.
Pro : 10:00 - 13:99 sec.
Super Pro : 7:00 - 11:99 sec.
There is also an "Advanced ET" class with 6:00 - 7:49sec.
(I really do not understand why there is always an "overlay" between the groups)
It is written there that
"each racetrack has the option of substituting its own class titles and e.t. breaks."
Why did the UK racing choose to race their current indexes in the groups ?
UK groups are - if I got that correct :
Sportsman ET : 12:00 and slower
Pro ET : 9:00 - 11:99
Super Pro ET : 6:30 - 8:99
I hope not to open a can of worms here, my reason for asking is :
In germany, some racers of the super classes are thinking about moving to ET,
which has suffered from little participants in the last years.
Same goes for some Comp Eliminator racers that cannot go 1/2sec. under their car index.
So I had a look at our ET groups, and they differ a little from yours.
german groups are
Sportsman ET : 14:00 and slower
Pro ET : 12:00 - 13:99
Super Pro ET : 7:00 - 11:99
Advanced ET : 6:00 - 7:49
I know that a few Pro ET racers went to NL in 2006,
and maybe -if they can drive at Drachten again (2008?)- Pro ET will be raced again.
So I am wondering whether is is possible to alter our indexes to the UK (and NL?) ones,
and therefore want to know if there was/is a reason for your "group times".
I did not (yet) read and compare the tech regulations,
are they the same for UK and FIA ?

I believe the UK class boundaries are regularly reviewed to try and ensure there is a class for everyone and each class has a good number of participants in it. I know in the past we have had a modified ET class too."each racetrack has the option of substituting its own class titles and e.t. breaks."

The important fact to observe though is that the safety regulations are not defined by class of competition but by ET - 9.99 seconds and slower, 7.50-9.99 seconds and under 7.50 I believe. This means that if your car runs Pro ET in one country and Super Pro in another it is still legal as the class of competition is just an overlay to enhance the competition.
