Sponsorship????

Ok, Ive recently taken delivery of my new (old) Tasmin Racecar (battered old shed) and I now have the intention to rebuild and race the old thing

Only thing is, I wont have the finances to run in the Challenge, but will be more than happy running a season/part season in the Speed Championship!

Now obviously, everyone wants to make things as cheap as possible and theres no such thing as a cheap motorsport, so I was wondering if sponsorship for myself and the car would be possible, where would do it and how one would go about it???

Ive raised financial sponsorship for events in the past, but for some reason, when I think about gaining sponsorship for racing, my mind draws a blank

Any suggestions would be greatfully received

I've been told it virtually impossible for this level, unless you friendly with any company directors of large companies that want to help you out.

If you do find any let me know, as I'm on a very tight budget also.

Remember you don't have to do all the races. plus hopefully we are getting a tire deal, so that should help a bit.

I think I'll only be able to do the one year. as all my saving's will be gone by then, unless I can work out how to make money from racing. I do have a small cunning plan though.

but I have been saving for 10 year, not for anything as such just for a rainy day. and I'm now single again. so have the time and some money. so thought If I don't do it now I never will.

Hope to see you at a few races though.

I had an idea that sponsorship would be difficult to come by, but Im not after huge sponsorship proivded by big corperations, just thought if I offered Ad space on the car that some companies may be interested for the sake of a little help...if you know what I mean

I think the best you may get would be enough to cover the car being re-sprayed.

That way you can say you want to advertise you pay for it to be done.

I maybe getting this deal with www.borsatec.com as the company I work for do a lot of work for them

Aye thats roughly the route I was going to go down....

I did have an application for the Demon Tweeks sponsorship, but misplaced it when I changed computers over :rollseyes:

Guys, i looked around for some sponsorship, and did not get any real solid interest in the taz, what i did manage was product sponsorship, graffic design company did the artwork for the cars livery in return for a name on the car, driver training, paint supply for the final paint job, another company helped with a gearbox, but i am involved in that company!!!

Sponsorship is out there, just not much of it in the form of cash.

I know companies arent willing to give much in the way of cash out, Ive experienced this when promoting events t'other year!

As Sam said sponsorship at this level especially if you have no track record (no pun intended, honest) is not easy. Keep asking because somebody may say yes. Like Sam we did some deals to get help but I paid for most of it and did the rounds we could afford. All things considered we had a good year (oops tire joke too).

After being 'downsized' last week another job is a priority now.

in all fairness, what I need to get into any kind of race is finances and lots of them as the car is basically a rolling chassis that needs a lot of work

The races I would hope to attend if I could get the car done quick enough if would be any races I can get into at Harewood or Croft

As for whether Im any good, I honestly dont know! I hope I will be, but thats something that only time and trial by fire will determine!

The thing is the car isnt in a raceable condition at the moment (see profile for pics) and this was more a fact finding mission as opposed to a request, but if you're willing to sponsor me and help get the bitch on the track then I would do my best to make you proud

Thanks for all the offers of releiving me of cash!!

We (www.autojob.co.uk) are seriously considering sponsoring a car next season.... and as a TVR owner i'd like to not only sponsor but see some racing and get involved, even if it's making the tea in the paddock !!

Some nice graphics etc. would be ideal.

I think i need to get some figures together i.e. what funds you would require, and how much we are prepared to release in sponsorship money.

If you could jot down some costs for me and what % you would like from us - and what you would offer for this % etc. then i'll run it past my co-directors/owners.

Have you budgeted for the season ? tyres, fuel, travel, mechanics, truck hire, accomodation, track testing, race costs etc.

What i'm looking for is promenent graphics i.e. bonnet, doors... access to the paddock etc. we could supply a 'pop-up' tent style workshop (as it always rains and you need cover to repair and tweak!!)

To start with from both sides you need to look at what your expecting from sponsorship, both the person giving it and the person receiving it.

Does the sponsor want exposure in a particular market, or are they looking for a day out for them and their customers, or do they just always wished they'd gone racing and are now in a position to help someone...


what does the driver want,cash or you can sometimes do better by using the products and services of a sponsor, i.e. engine building, body work, parts supply. free tyres and oil etc...

Also if the sponsor is interested in helping out at the weekend, that extra pair of hands can sometimes be worth more than money...

The thing to remember is that sponsorship isnt just something for free the more you want the more you need to work at it to keep a sponsor happy. Do that and you will hopefully be working together or a long time..

Just thought I would bump this and see how people are getting on so far?


Ive managed to find a guy who will make all decals, shotblast and powdercoat my wheels for free, in return for a small amount of Ad space on the Tasworth (preparing a new name for when I get the engine situation sorted )

I think Ive also sourced someone that is willing to supply the bits and pieces for fibreglassing & painting, and is showing me how to glass, then letting me loose to fix and spray my car again in return for a bit of ad space
