E39 5 - auto gearbox question
Discussion
Recently changed cars bought a 96' bmw 523i se and its a wonderful car except the gearbox is driving me a bit nuts.
If you roll very gradually to a stop, it seems to take a long time to 'realise' this and re-engage drive for when you set off again.
I have heard that the e39 gearbox is an adaptive unit in that it learns your driving style and adapts itself to it. Is there a way to reset this (like disconnect battery??) so it starts learning again? Would doing this affect other systems?
Any advice gratefully appreciated

It can be reset but I would also have your Oil Level checked as it may be getting low or in need of a change. Although "sealed for life" according to BMW the concensus is to change at around 100k.
Cheers for the info, is it just simply a matter of disconnecting the battery or does more need to be done than that. The car has only 65000 miles on it at the moment so I dont think its the oil
Thanks again
