Evening all
I just felt like a quick whinge and a moan so where better to do so!

I thought my continuing repairs started far too easily today. Both track rod ends done in 20 minutes and thought ahhh, time for the oil change I've been meaning to do.......Not had one in the past year and probably not for a few years previously.

Grrrrr, I'm sure someones welded the sump plug in. Rounded to start with, now more rounded and dented from screwdriver and hammer. Hmmmm, what next I wonder? Perhaps I'll weld something to it and see if it turns with that.......

You could try a tool called a 'speed wrench' they
are great for rounded nuts - where you have good
access.

What's a one of those then? I'd prefer not to swing a MIG torch around under the engine but may do if I'm not inspired by any other methods.......

It looks a bit like an adjustable spanner but has
self tightening jaws that phyisically bit into
the nut.

hmmm, I've tried molegrips and they just slip, sounds like a similar thing........it might have to be subjected to my welding skills I thinks

A speed wrench is not like mole grips..
they tighten and actually bite more into the bolt
as they turn.

Mole grips just slide round and make matters worse !

Small chisel (or a centre punch) and a hammer works well

Dave, just a small point but worth mentioning I hope. Buy yourself a new sump-plug *before* trying any/all of the above to remove the old one...

Had the same problem on the other half's Mondeo a few weeks ago. After trying everything else, finally resorted to welding a bar on. I am sure the nut was made from recycled tin foil. I would do it now before there's not enought left to weld to.

Tried hitting undersized socket onto it, hammer and screwdriver, hammer(it helped me if not the plug , molegrips, time to try another tool. I'll go perusing some and see if I can find one of these devices. Whether I buy it depends on how much it is and how cheap I'm feeling at the time

I did keep thinking I should perhaps get a replacement when I was beating it yesterday. I will before attacking it with a MIG, or I might make my own custom version out of the old one!

She's lovely really, just has a few (aka lots of) stiff bits due to years of neglect. Perhaps she'll pass her MOT next month......

Hitting a screwdriver with a hammer (apart from contravening the health and safety at work act 1974) doesnt get anywhere near the same force as hitting a nicely ground centre punch.
If that dont work drill a hole and use a good old fashioned "easyout" and tap wrench"
