I am going to look at a FSH 99 car with auto Black with leather (champagne). Car has just had disks pad and an oil service at bmw main stealer and comes with a years mot. I am thinking about offering 4.5k but would probably pay up to 5k. Am I mad does that price seem about right? Seems a hell of a lot of car for the money if it is mint as described but it could also be worth about a fiver.

Thanks, Bruce

Price sounds keen but how many miles? and remember not many buyers for big engines out there and it's getting close to xmas so they will be keen to deal... go in at £4200 whats the worst that could happen? you won't insut a dealer he probably paid £3500. Let us know how you go.

Sounds like it good be expensive - as a 99 car it can't be a factory Sport, but does it have the Sport pack (shadowline trim, sports seats, M-tech steering wheel, 17" alloys)?

I paid £5,500 for a 2000/X 540i Touring with the Sport pack (though it had comfort seats specced) - I would expect an older saloon to be notably cheaper.

Sorry 60k with full BMSH.I think its just a standard 540i with the following spec. I get you re the large engines nobody wanting them. I did have a look on autotrader and the stuff at £4200 is mega mileage. I guess the point is that those are not necessarily the price that anything sells at. I'm going in at £4200 .

Spec is below thanks for the help

Black with full cream leather, electric everything, ie: windows / rear sun
shield / mirrors / sun roof / seats / lumbar support...

Also what mileage did the touring have whn you bought it if you don't mind?

My Touring was on 126k miles, but if it had been clocked you'd never have known it was that high. Hits the value, I'm sure, but there's a 60k mile 1999 540i Touring which has just sold on eBay for £5,700 and looks in similar condition, so don't pay too much.

God that sounds cheap to me for a 99 with only 60k.

I love my E34 540 - once you get used to 20mpg its really not so bad smile Besides the 4.4l is slightly better on fuel so i hear - would be economical for me!

Cheap indeed so I stuck to my guns went in at 4k and agreed 4200 in the end. Thanks for the help I had convinced myself that 5k was fair value so I just saved 800 quid. Well thats what I am telling the wife....

Anybody who is after a manual 540i e34 touring keep an eye on the classifieds

Nice one; that's a bargain. I love the champagne leather, too - it's nappa, so nicer than the usual elephant hide.

Whisper it, but after my E34 530i Touring, I was disappointed with the E39 at first. Quicker, obviously, but less sporty and involving. Took a while to worm its way under my skin. I fancy an E34 M5 (3.6 version would be fine) as a second car now.

I had a 3.8 e34 M5 which was a fabulous car but really quite expensive to run. As much as I love E34's I'm quite looking forward to silly things like the heater and windscreen de mister working better. It is only my station car after all. Thanks again for all the help

Can't you keep it for a few more months till i can afford one? Am trying to move house and want one of them, would be a nice step up from the 34 535i i had and sold.

Well I got the car on saturday and did a bit of last minute haggling an paid 4k. What can I say its lovely and goes like stink. The bonnet looks like it has been bird poo'd on as there are some marks there but with a bit of lucck cleaning and Zymol that should come out. The only other thing is that the leather Yellow/ cream has a couple of different tones around the place which I am guessing might bbe related to sun bleaching? Not very noticeable tho.
Anyway these are small issues and will post pics soon asnd wil a bit ofg luck this should be cheaper to run than my old barge.

Blatant plug for old barge for sale in classifieds .

I thought that might be your E34 540iT in the classifieds.

I happened to notice that the eBay link I put up is back up for sale - £6,100 in the PH classifieds as well as being auctioned by the same seller.

Anyway, pics of your new car please smile

There's a 528i saloon in the same spec as your 540i in the classifieds, then - same colour (exterior and interior) and same wheels. Makes me wonder why people pay such a premium now for a Sport spec car when you've got everything important in a nicely specced-up one like yours or mine.
