I have seen posts before regarding the area of paint which is damaged by the centre of the rear spoiler rubbing on the top of the boot lid (6.0 VXR).

I understand from my local dealer that Vauxhall won’t even come out and look at my car as they say this is caused by the boot being closed by pushing down on the spoiler. I have never closed my boot by this method, but the paint is through to the primer/undercoat.

Has anyone had this successfully repainted for free under warranty?

What experiances do you have with this issue?

Thanks for your replies

Hmmm....talk to your dealer again, Stu Harris (Head of VXR product) has publically said on here that it CAN cause marks when the spoiler is loaded up at speed, and it pushes it down.

So is this something that we MAY be able to get done under warranty Brian?

If not, what sort of cost are we looking at to repair it? Mine is starting to look pretty bad now and in probably due to driving at faster speeds than before

This is rubbish, the shock of the boot being slammed shut is more likely to cause the spoiler to move in said fashion than it being compressed down at speed.

Vauxhall should put this right for you.

I was told they wouldnt replace hot spotted disks, but they did on my Cv8 when I complained.

If it was 1 or 2mm then I would probably agree but the movement is a hell of a lot more than that. As long as you don't push down on the spoiler then it will not create as much damage as it has on 90% of the cars I have seen.

Next time I take it out for a "spirited" run I will mark it or something and see if it does compress the spoiler down. My guess is that at anything approaching top speeds the force on the spoiler would be significant.

it would potentially have downforce at speed that might move the spolier down the boot lid, but when you slam the boot the spoiler did seem to move slightly on both of my vxr's

You need to be speeking to the right dealer, some know the car better and work harder with Vauxhall for the benefit of the customer.

Is it, You need to be speeding to the right dealer? or You need to be speaking to the right dealer?

I guess if it is both than that is a very appropriate new word.

Having never even opened my boot from new but still got the wear marks within 500 miles from new i`m afraid Benno your theory is blown to threads.

Its all down to aerodynamic load, and I`d guess at speeds as low as 60 mph.
As the rear lip is not a true aerofoil the disturbed airflow over it would result in a small rotor to form aft of the spoiler, which would cause the lip to slightly chatter.

Thats why the damage is so pronounced after such a short time, its rubbing its way through the paint.

Easy to prevent though, just take the spoiler off and space it off the rear bootlid using kitchen door unit closer losenges. (for those whom it`s not too late for)

So... Has anyone had their car re-painted under waranty by Vauxhall? I am still to receive a reply from anyone who it seems, has managed to claim for this.

Think Greens Vauxhall gave you your ammo in his first post, or you could take your car to Archie Moss perhaps.

I had this problem on my 04.
have a look at the nut holding the centre of the spoiler on. mine was completly off and in the boot lid, along with the washer!

all you need to do is remove those plastic "nails" that hold the boot lid trim (strong/ old kitchen fork should do) and there it is. bit of thread lock, and it now moves only a little.

Mine's scratched too. It's only ever been opened once or twice with the spoiler by mistake, other than that, the boot itself has only been used. I've only done 4500 miles in 10 months. Clearly a design problem
