C180 (2003) saloon - thru-load / rear seat removal???

My uncle is about to trade his (C180 Kompressor 2003/53)so I was considering it as a replacement for my current Focus daily driver.
The only problem is that I know it doesn't have folding rear seats. My question is, if the rear seats were removed on the odd occasion I need that little extra space, would I be left with an opening similar to that achieved when folding down conventional split rear seats or would I still be left with a steel panel blocking my access?
I'm assuming that even if I removed the rear seat I would not have a thru-load facility but thought I should ask!
