Massa stays at Ferrari until 2010 (unless they actually mean that he's staying at Ferrari until 8:10PM...)

Massa to stay at Ferrari through 2010

Ferrari have announced that they have extended Felipe Massa's contract until the end of the 2010 season.

There had been rumours that Massa would have to leave the team to make way for Fernando Alonso if the Spaniard split with McLaren after this year, but Ferrari boss Jean Todt dismissed this speculation last month and insisted that the team were committed to Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.

Massa's new deal is also set to end continued suggestions that Alonso could join Ferrari for 2009, when the Brazilian's previous contract would have expired.

Raikkonen's Ferrari deal runs to the end of the 2009 season.

Massa has been contracted to Ferrari since 2001, but was initially placed with the Sauber team.

He was promoted to the Ferrari squad alongside Michael Schumacher last season, and has now taken five victories and eight pole positions for the team.
So the Spantard's™ only options now are: stay at McLaren (rofl), Toyota (the money's good but the car and team are shite) or Renault (money's tight but they have a reasonable car and a team that loves him).

He's gonna wear Renault colours in 2008, methinks...

We just have to hope Renault can't/don't want him for some reason. Then what? All on his Aloneso will be out of F1 or in a crap seat still fuming at McLaren while Hamilton gets another shot at the WDC regardless.

I wonder when he'll admit that the baby antics were not the right move?

Flavio's already been dress rehearsing what Alonso will have to do to get the drive by getting Pay Symonds to go down first.

You are deluding yourself.

And if you were a true supporter and had any real interest in F1 you would not want one of the best drivers excluded.

When is the Alonso bashing going to stop. It's childish, pathetic and shows that some on here have no real interest in the sport of F1...

Its like i said. People are now so obsessed with the culture of personality and 'celebrity', that they'd actually prefer F1 not to have one of ther best drivers on track. They'd rather have a 3 way fight than a 4 way fight. Amazing.

If he gets back in the renault and it suddenly goes as quick as it did last year i'll piss meself. laugh

Pat's a good laugh, i met him last year at the Goodwood Revival where he was dressed up as a teddy boy with the full malarky on.

As to Massa, this anouncement doesnt mean Massa will be driving a Ferrari until and including 2010, all it says is he is under contract to Ferrari until the end of 2010. They even go as far as to state Massa has been a signed Ferrari driver since 2001, yet he wasnt driving a Ferrari for the races in 2001, or 2002, or 2003, or 2004, or 2005. That inclusion is significant, as at a later time they can come back and point out the fact he was previously signed to the team yet didnt drive for them.

Under this anouncement he could drive for whoever Ferrari agree for him to drive for, that could easily be a customer Ferrari team or even Toyota, if that fits the plans of the team.
