So much for the glamour of F1 - other than the assorted Red Bull and McLaren team personnel (and also Charlie Whiting) we flew down there overnight, nobody else seemed to have a clue who he was. By all accounts from our crew, an utterly charming and un-assuming bloke.

I met him several times at Luton when he was third/reserve driver for BAR, always flying Easyjet, it was never too much trouble for him to stop and have a word.

he and his wife were right behind me getting on teh plane - met him at jerez a few times when testing, genuine nice guy

Sounds like the sort of bloke that I want to see in racing. Good stuff. Hope he does OK next season.

It annoys me that the media have largely ignored him. I know he's still a little inconsistent, which given the milage he's done testing is a bit worrying but he has some amazing turns of speed and has routinely trounced Sato this season who is no slouch himself.

I really rate AD and I hope he gets the drive he deserves.

Davidson is one of those guys who should have got a drive 5 years ago, but people wuth more money (like Yoong) always got in ahead.

I think you could easily say that the car is also inconsistent as well..

I would also like to see him (and button) in a more competitive car next year.

I'm convinced to within a reasonable degree that he tested with us at Rye House about 9 years ago when we ran a prokart endurance team.

He was about 2 seconds a lap quicker than us and he also fixed our carbs. If it was him, top guy!

Perhaps unsurprisingly he turned down our kind offer of a drive with us..!

Yes, but you raced against a current F1 driver. That's cool!

He was at Silverstone doing his instructor try-out training with me, and he was very much a PR-orientated person. Not very loud in the instructors seat. Never saw him again after that.

I always found Rubens one of the nicest guys in F1. I met him when I was working at Jerez many moons ago, while I was doing lunch with Johnny Sherbert Who greeted me with "Hello, I'm Johnny, I'm a driver". My answer was "Hi, I'm Rob, I'm a driver too, but I have to do this to pay for my car!".

bumblebee i am going to sao paulo tomorrow night ,, and staying in downtown sao paulo how are you getting to the track and have you had any past experience of getting to track whats the best way cheers also what kinda seats you got im in orange tree club

Hi Mike,

I won't be around for the actual race - have to fly back on Friday night, but might try and get to Interlagos for practice early on Friday morning. No idea yet how to get there other than in a taxi!

oh ok,, what airline did you fly out on im flying out on TAM but have been told not so good no on flight entertainment ,, have you had experience with this airline.. whats the atmosphere like at the moment on gp weekend

will you have a car? driving is ok but i'm not sure what parking is like here, so easiest to get a taxi from the hotel i'd have thought (although not especially cheap...). getting back home is the issue with that, although i took taxi's last year and didn't have too much trouble

We have an F1 driver working here from the 70/80's raced Hunt and for Lotus/Bmr etc etc, only a few of us know he's ex F1.
