Thought this day may come.

Car is with Richard at Dulford having a 12k service, along with a few other bits and bobs the cams need replacing.eek

Oh well, I thought she was going well before. Should be like new when I get her back smile

extra £1300 parts on your bill then, and 10 hours labour in addition to normal 12k service, if my current experience is anything to go by. (exact same situation) apparantly a heap of labour caused by cam followers/buckets not fitting properly and having to be ground or something, even though they were supplied by the "official" tvr parts outlet

Cams with labour should come in about £1600, with the rest of the bits, including wheel bearing, few bushes, clutch master cyl, handbrake shoes, new headlight reflectors, bit of fuel pipe & 12k service: another £1600. Thats with labour and if it gets my baby back in top condition its worth it.

She'll be running sweet for my trackday at Oulton in November smile

you think you'll get the cams into stock and fitted by then?! mine took ages to come :|

if I pick mine up in time , I'll be raring to take it out to a track day and test her out, itd be interesting to compare ours on the track both having cams done etc, (mine had shocks clutch and other crap too, bill currently stands around £5500)

Cams in tomorrow I think Richard said, car should be ready for begining of next week.

The Oulton day should be good, always got the M3 to fall back on if 'if' its not ready by then.

The cams do have to come out when you do the tappits, so extra time charged at a 12K service for removal and refitting is a bit strange.

The cams also obviously have to have the tappet clearances checked and if you're using a decent indie they will retime the cams, so not sure what the extra work they are talking about is.

But what would really poo me off more than anything is that you asked the question and the answer was 'theres more to it than that'

I'm afraid thats how I'd talk to my six year old. Not how I'd explain something to someone who was footing the bill.

The only thing I could see beyond swaping the cams over, is that you'd probably need to reset the clearance on all the valves. So more shims and labour required, but shouldn't be too much.

but being charged twice then. Once for fitting the cam, and reseting the clearances, and twice for checking the clearances just set in the 12K service?

Mine is down at dulfords as well. Rich rang me with bad new too for my 48k service. Valve clearances have closed up on a few of them. Could be valve seat receding into the head or the valves stretching!!! Also need to have the wishbone bushes replaced.

I would be pretty pissed if I was charged any labour for changing the cams when they have them out for the service!

C2HYM is that £1600 for just the cams and another £1600 for the srvice and other bits you said need doing? £800 per cameek

I think I would be asking questions!
