I've done a search, but apologise if I've missed this somewhere...

All the specialists seem to be near Nottingham, Leicester or further north!

Any personal recommendations for south of London please.

I've found Greenwoodracing - any more?

it's for a new clutch (remember that thread?), so slightly out of my DIY league.

Have you ever looked under the bonnet of your car? tongue out
It's complicated; I'd never get all the tubes back in and manage to close the bonnet hehe

I been under my bonnet many times and taken lots apart. Thankfully i remembered how to put it all back together again. tongue out

Can i recommend you pre-purchase an AP Racing uprated (350bhp) Clutch kit as it comes with an STi grade release bearing. If you have a spare flywheel get it skimmed and you should be ready to rock and roll. Then just get someone to put the clutch and flywheel in and pay them labour only. Much cheaper that way, if cost is a prohibitive factor, although i got TSL to do mine all in as i trust them bigtime. Not cheap really but peace of mind is priceless and i don't have facilities to do a clutch in my garage, although i've done everything else.

If you get stuck ...shout

thanks for the offer. biggrin

You would be astonished by the number of people that will sell me the AP CP2000-18 without a release bearing, and you could argue that they make this clear, but I'd argue that they usually don't.

I'm also tempted by the Exedy organic - I've seen some stories about the AP lasting only 2k miles, though I'm sure that is through poor installation (hence why I want a specialist whatever clutch I choose).

Both Greenwood and eurospec are my customers.

Would not hesitate in recommending either.

email me through my profile if you have any questions about anyone else.

I think you could make any clutch last only 2000 miles, probably a lot less if you drive like a dick, wheelspin the arse off your car every opportunity, launch it from standstill everytime you pull away from lights etc...etc...

The OEM clutch on mine was original from new (MY02) till i changed it in March this year. I have however given this AP clutch some abuse from time to time and it still feels pretty good even after many full bore starts. Best thing though is no more judder which is a bonus.

What put me off getting the Exedy is that they make Subaru's clutches for OEM use and are branded as Subaru so ordinarily you wouldn't know it was Exedy, however, they are prone to judder and i had it bigtime from purchase till i changed the clutch. I called several dealers to explain the judder and they all said it's a characteristic of the Impreza. Bollox!! I know what causes it now but i just don't get that with the AP.

Ah-ha (poor rant BTW 2.5/10 tongue out)

But I have been told that AP use Exedy parts to make up the CP2000-18 version - true or false?

At this stage i would hazard a guess at false. I cannot see them using the same parts. As far as i know they are two completely different and unconnected companies, unless they use the same components bin from the same components manufacturer.

I can't see it myself though, and that wasn't meant to be a rant...makes a change hehe
