I have a dilapidated asbestos cement panel garage that I want dismantled and disposed of in the appropriate manner - Basically I want it gone without any intervention on my part other than handing over a bundle of £20s afterwards. I know what the rules are on asbestos removal so no demoliton fetishists with sledgehammers please! I have a budget in mind but I'll see what folks say first. Any takers?

If you employ a speciallist then they would automatically class it as waste so it would be expensive for you. Is it illegal to sell a garage with an asbestos roof? If not, stick it on ebay as a buyer collects and you'll make money on it!

My understanding is (although I don't know if it's correct) that a full unbroken sheet of chrysotile is not classed as dangerous, it's only when it's broken up and releases the fibres into the atmosphere that it's a problem.

I'm on the lookout for a concrete double garage regardless of roof type!

Asbestos cement sheets are still classed as 'hazardos waste' and MUST be taken to registered tip licenced to take same. The rules on handling asbestos as been relaxed (slightly) If the sheets can be sealed inside plastic bags / sheet it can be transported to the tip by most contractors.

PS Handing over a bundle of notes does NOT absolve you of responciblity to dispose of this type of waste, make sure who you choose is 'responable' personly i would want to see the 'ticket' from the tip outlining the date. time. type, weight, of disposal before passing over 'wedge'

No chance of selling it - it's absolutely dropping to bits.

Yes, when I wrote "I know what the rules are on asbestos removal so no demoliton fetishists with sledgehammers please!" I was attempting to indicate that I know exactly how it has to be disposed of and that I don't want any cowboys turning up and doing it any other way than the proper one. By saying "Basically I want it gone without any intervention on my part other than handing over a bundle of £20s" I'm not trying to imply that I don't care what is done with it after it's removed from my property, more than I simply don't want any physical participaton in the process of dismantling or disposal... but I do want it doing properly... hence why I want a quote for this from someone who can assure me that they are legit. I have seen an advert stating £350 for 'proper' removal of asbestos garages, but I was hoping to get it for under £300. I did once have a bloke at the door offering to do it for £150 but it seemed cheap and when I went inside and came back with a set of instructions that I'd printed-out from the council web site he disappeared very quickly!

I know if I dismantle it myself I can double-wrap it and take it to the local asbestos disposal place by appointment and drop it off for nothing. The problem is the pieces won't fit into my car and I'd rather pay someone else to do the whole job anyway. We're doing a lot of work on the house and we really don't have time for this too, but I want the garage gone as it's no good for parking my car in.
