What Protech damping setting do people run?
Discussion
Protechs are probably the easiest damper to get to grips with because they only have 13 clicks from full soft to full stiff .. and full soft isn't waaaaaaay too soft and full stiff is a sensible really stiff track seting so it's 13 useable clicks ..
soooo ..
unlike other dampers you can safely start from the full soft setting and wind the dampers up until you get the feel you require .. this is beacuse the protechs use a bellville washer arrangement behind the adjuster unlike the coil springs used on the real budget dampers .. with coil springs you get inconsistent adjusters as the springs take a set in use .. so if you set cheap dampers to the same number of clicks you may not have the same damping effect . the way the potech is designed effectively eliminates that effect and the dampers are balanced at build so you have a very consistent adjuster for a relatively modest cost
for road use then softer works better .. so go out for a driver at full soft and get a feel for what each end of the car is doing .. and then start winding the dampers up a click at a time and see how different thecar feels .. you'll reach a point at which the car wll become uncomfortable on the road bumps and so you need to go back softer to the point you considered it to be a good compromise. The point on the damper range at which this occures will most probably be different front to back but we're all different so just have a play and see how you go. if you need detailed handling effects advice give me an email and i'll send something out to you.
With only 13 clicks though you can't get too lost and each click makes a difference you can feel in the car. they're quite straightforward to adjust and feel the effects.
have fun

Comparing to other folks settings can be misleading due to differences in weights/ spring rates / valving....
