Maybe, but he was the class of the field pace-wise at Fuji and Shanghai (before his little pit lane faux pas). Certainly had the upper hand on Alonso which is all that matters.

In three wet races, Lewis and Alonso have each won once. Lewis has 'fallen off twice', but didn't actually damage his car - whereas Alonso royally stuffed his into the wall in Japan.

Don't see why Lewis should be any more worried by a wet weekend than either of the other two contenders?

Incidentally, 5% - are you loneranger and, if so, I claim my £5.

I think I dreamt it was a racing incident.

As you said, it would be a brave man for Alonso to try a Schumacher as he's the one with something to lose, being behind Lewis in the championship.

I can however see Alonso either trying an "all or nothing" pass if he's behind Lewis or shutting the door when he probably shouldn't have if he's in front of Lewis.

Part of me is relishing in the thought of a close wheel to wheel F3 style battle between the two, most of me believes if someone tries to make a pass on track it will end in tears as they're both too stubborn. The drivers championship is McLaren's to lose, and poor Ron has no control over that.

By saying it was the last thing Lewis wanted, I didn't mean to suggest he was at any disadvantage when racing in wet conditions because I think he's as good as anyone.

What I meant is that a wet race is much more unpredictable than a dry one, and given that Lewis is currently leading the points, the last thing he wants is unpredictability. If its dry it may be a less exciting race for the fans, but its much more likely that the 2 Ferraris and 2 Mclarens will finish in the top 4 which in most permutations leaves Lewis with the title. If its wet, anything could happen with accidents, with picking the wrong tyre on a drying track etc so it makes Lewis's job a lot harder IMHO.

But surely Lewis will have his head about him, and try to stay out of trouble. He's currently wining the title, and finishing 3rd will do it (I think, although I haven't done the calculations).

All Lewis has to do is finish in the points, so Alonsa well disapear into the lead, but if Lewis is a causious distance behind, it's won't matter.

I think if the Ferraris are significantly quicker than the Mclarens as they were at Spa it could actually be a benefit to Hamilton. That way Alonso wouldnt get a sniff of a victory and Lewis could shadow him in 4th or 5th and win the title even if Raikkonen wins. If they turn out to be evenly matched on this particular circuit as is being suggested, it could all get rather tense if Alonso manages to outqualify Lewis by a couple of places, and even if the Mclarens were siginifcantly quicker than the Ferraris it would only need one mistake / problem for Lewis to drop behind a Ferrari and lose out.

Ferrari have been making noises all week that they don't reckon their chances as they need to use the super soft compound and their chassis doesn't work well with that soft compound

Alonso is four points behind Lewis, so if Alonso wins Hamilton can finish fourth to guarantee the title on points. I think that's right.

Last time I checked points were awarded 10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1, which would mean Lewis would lose the championship if Alonso won and he was anywhere but secon.

You are indeed correct.

If Alonso is 1st, Hamilton needs to be 2nd.
If Alonso is 2nd, Hamilton needs to be 3rd.
Alonso finishing below 2nd means LH can finish further behind him than one place.
