Are all these factory fit engines then ? Are they the decent ones or are you looking at early type Tuscan reliability or does it depend on the year of the conversion ?

Seen quite a few going for not more money than the 3.6. Is it the way to go ?

I'm fairly sure that a factory built 4.0 red rose Tamora does not exist. Stand to be corrected, but would be very surprised. A few 3,6 RR cars exist - SEN18 who posts on here and a guy that posted as Black Monday (but then became all arty and changed his name to Lundi Noir) own 3,6 RR Tamoras and seem quite pleased with the package!

I'd be surprised if there weren't any Tamoras with 4.0 RR engines - a very desirable open sports car. Weren't TVR developing a soft-top Sagaris?

Yep had mine upgraded from 3.6 to 4.0L RR in April, and what a difference in performance and the extra horses are very noticable. I'd say go for the 4.0L if possible.

Make sure you check where the 4.0L upgrade was done because I don't think that there were any 4.0L RR Tamora's done at the factory.

Yea, forgot to mention, also have Tuscan S disc fitted to stop those extra horses, and ACT Carbon Fibre Air Tight Air Box.

(Proper)Factory RR standard options were = blueprinted uprated engine..large bore (up to 2.5 inch dia) exhaust (full length not just a loud backbox and with the engine properly setup for it !)...upgraded adjustable suspension..uprated larger brakes front and rear...lightweight body...18" wheels as standard...cr gearbox..better quality build overall (apparently)...it aint just engine and brakes. I was told when i bought my T350trr there were less than 30 made at the factory..everyone seems to have a rr these days !!

The usual test is the brakes when it comes to looking at a "RR". Most peolpe who upgrade their cars to what they perceive to be RR only upgrade the fronts as the rear converion requires an upright change and is not cheap. Truth be known however, the rear upgrade is not required and upsets the cars balance.

The lightweight body I belive was an option on a RR - and I doubt it made much diffrence - bit like the LWT Cerbs...

Likewise CR box was not as I remeber standard on the 3,6 litre cars.

Glad to see you stick up for originality - too many RR and S cars advertised these days that aren't. wink

Will get round to posting some pictures soon as just been polishing the damn thing after the rain, fog, and general road cack on the way back to NI. Cant wait for the next track day. Runs well, handles well and nowhere near as much scuttle shake as the T350. Thanks for the interest.

You must have had a bad T350. I own a T350 and have driven many Sagaris's including Johns (Daftlad) at Cadwell and to be honest yes out the box the Sagaris is better equiped in lots of ways but not to the degree you suggest. It does not take a lot to get a T350 knocking on the door of the Sagaris, certainly not the extra over 12k.

Cheers for the replies. Sooo...what else is in a RR then?

I see quite a few people upgrade to Nitrons. I've got an elise - I know it wont handle like one but how far off it are we talking. They're only 1000 kilos arent they ? Is it quite lithe and agile to chuck about ?

Wrong, I had one of the best and I have driven a lot. Nitrons, corner weighted, 3:73 hydratrak, Sag spec rubber, factory widened arches, C/R Box, Dyno'd at 350bhp. I did not suggest it was better, I just gave my opinion from my first drive. If it makes you happy the turn in is not as good! Anyway there was sweet FA to keep up with my 350 on slicks so whats your point? Oh and who mentioned 12k
We all love TVRs so dont take offence when someone expresses an opinion!

On the contrary Bob.

I thought we were having a grown up discussion,

If it makes you happy your right on every count. wink

Sometimes people can get a bit over exited when they first purchase a new car, I was just pointing out that there is not a lot of difference, which i am sure you will see once the excitement dwindles and the 12k was just a balance on why the Sagaris is a more grown up on track.

Mark,
no offence taken and as you say we all have our opinions.
My reasons for the Sag purchase were that imho the mid 2005 cars were the best built and that when I purchased the 350 I really wanted a Sag, but could not afford one. Loved the 350, but was always the thought that I really wanted a Sag. As you say time will tell and maybe the rose tinted goggles may come off.
First impressions remain, but this is not a daily drive. If it were driven more often I would have kept the 350.
Hope that puts us back on the adult discussion level.
Oh and by the way your 350 looks the dogs.
