a silly question about cycles, bike racks and TVR Tuscans

Hi,

used to have a Griff and now looking to maybe buy a Tuscan BUT these days I do a lot of cycling and was wondering about bike racks or the boot of the tuscan.

Is the boot big enough for wheels off mountain bikes? Unlikely i guess cos the Griff boot was deep but not wide. Anybody tried?

OR has anybody ever fitted a tow bar to a Tuscan... no no no not to tow a caravan, that would be blasphemy, but you can get tow bar bike racks whicvh dont touch the body work of cars so this might be a solution.

Any clues?

I have never tried a bike but I have no problem fitting a fill set of golf clubs and a motorised trolly in my boot ?

You can fit a mountain bike in the boot with the wheels off, although you can't then fit the roof in the boot as well.

I have a "large" Santa Cruz Blur (a full suspension mountain bike, if that didn't mean anything to you!), and it goes in ok as long as you either rotate the stem or even take the bars off completely. Not a disaster, as it only takes a few seconds to do them up again. That might not be necessary depending how big your bike is.

Best to test your bike out before you commit to buying one though...

It would be close! The boot is deep, at the right angle I think you might get away with it.

Where would you put the frame though, passenger seat?

my orange sub 5 fits with bars still on and in a bike bag (wouldn't want the car getting muddy now would we), but do have to let the air out of my tyres (on the bike).

it also fits very nicely in the boot of the Avensis est... doh!

Its a medium ti Ibis or large ti full sus bike (depends on how I feel) and I'd not want to take the bars off as both have lovely ibis ti stems on with old style clamps.

Not worried about a muddy boot and would happliy live with roof on for bike trips.

No tow bar experiences then?

I can get my Cannondale in the boot...both wheels off and seat post lowered. It's tighter than the Chimaera but still do-able.

I don't think you'd get a road bike (with bigger frame) in though.
