Can anyone clarify whether the service item for lubriucating the propshaft grease points relates to all models or just on early cars.

This is quite a pain to do having to drop the exhaust first especially at home using stands/ramps, and until you do this its difficult to gauge whether this is applicable ie necessary on all cars.

Mine is a 500 Serp with T5 box, chassis dated 95 around the cross over period ?

Any help appreciated

If the UJ's have been replaced, never mind gambling which type yhey had when new.... some have nipples, some don't. Without looking (at least once) I don't think you can tell?

It is a pain to drop the exhaust, but you do get access to check a lot of bolts.. handbrake lever stuff is well worth doing IMHO... I certainly make it part of my annual major service items (just don't do them all in one go)

Did mine recently while I had the diff out, worth doing if you are not sure it has been done recently IMO.

Taking the exhaust off was probably the easiest job I have done on this car so I wouldn't be put off by that.

youre supposed to do this every major service .. removing theexhaust is the only way to do it, but also makes other jobs easier like the fuel filter, handbrake adjustment/lubrication and greasing the top diff front mounting bolts ready for when you need to take them out .. think what preventative manitenance you can do whilst the exhaust is off and it all makes much more sense smile

My 97 450 has the nipples (oooerrr !!). When I first bought the chim I noticed a vibration at motorway speeds whcih over a few weeks became steadily worse until it was almost undriveable. Had the wheels balanced, all bolts , wishbones etc checked...problem still there. Handed to an indie and voila - discovered the propshaft appeared to never have been lubed. Stripped it down and was dry as a bone , luckily no damage ! Packed with grease, put back together and no more vibration. I now make a point of having it lubed every year.
