Can anyone point me in the right direction with a problem I have on my 280i - the engine holds back when I get to around 3000 rpm to a point where I think it will choke and cut out but if I ease off the gas it will recover and continue past 3000rpm but will do the same again at 500rpm more and again when I ease back on the throttle it will recover and continue up the range.
I have fitted a new rebuilt engine , new ignition leads, plugs, air filter and fuel filter so I am sure the problem does not lie here. Is it electrical or fuel related
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what might be causing this problem or has anyone had a similar problem themselves.
Any advice or help would be extremely gratefully recieved
Many Thanks
Ian

I have finally solved this problem - it was all down to the warm up regulator on the MFI. The regulators are a Bosch item and are now obsolete - I managed to get one from an old Bosch Distributor who had one lying around on his shelf - they are expensive though - nearly £200 new - I managed to get mine for £120 as it was old stock.

You were very fortunate to find a warm up regulator for the price you did. Bosch is generally charging close to $900.00 for them, at last report, new.

Marshall,
can you still get them in the States - as they are officially obsolete over here in the UK - and I am not aware of anyone reproducing them yet - makes me wonder what will happen in the future. Incidently the new one I managed to get my hands on was for fittment to another vehicle type (non TVR or Ford) and had an extra vacuum outlet on the bottom of the regulator. I have been told that the insides of these things are essentially the same and work to the same principal - the only differences being the small tweaks each car manufacturer wanted for their models. I was told to just block the extra vaccum port to stop dirt from entering the unit - this I have done and it works well.
Cheers

Ian,
I have a couple of them in stock. These are completely refurbished units.
