Hey all . Thanks for your help in advance !
I have a 94 chim 4.0 hc . and about 4 mths ago . my oil pressure gauge started to flicker back and forth , and now with the power on it sits above 90 psi and when running it stays the same .. I have done oil changes etc . and changed the pressure sender . and still no joy . Looking at the previous threads it may be a earth issue ? or a wire issue ?
Does any one have any idea . or had this happen to them before. And what was the cure if you did.

Thanks
Matt

Are you certain that the new pressure sender was the correct one for your gauge?

They are matched to the instruments you have, early ones are ETB and the pressure senders are quite different from the later CAI ones.

I have a similar problem with my 1995 chim oil pressure gauge(black rimmed) I can't find the correct sender unit anywhere, the unit for the silver rimmed gauges are not compatible. I've ended up fitting a second gauge below the radio until I can find the correct sender unit. I tried Bell Hill salvage a while ago but they were out of second hand units. I want to keep my dash looking original.

Would be worth contacting Bell Hill - I'd buy the sender and the gauge as a pair just so you know they are compatible.

Perhaps the innards of a later gauge can be fitted in to the casing of the older one allowing the later sender unit to be used??

Good Luck.

On a related subject - my oil gauge doesn't drop below 30 psi. When I start it up it goes higher than this but never drops below. Are these gauges known to 'stick' ?? It just sounds like its more trouble than its worth attempting to take it out(off with the dashboard) than just leave it as it is.

It is well worth knowing how to get the dashboard off anyway IMHO. Once you have done it, its easier the next time... There is a lot of stuff under the dashboard that you may need access to - immob, flashers, heater cables.... - better not to be faced with the unknown in an emergency.

Sounds like you need to send the gauge for repair, or replace (at least you have the most common one wink ).

I changed my sender unit and had the same result, it read 90 psi. Then realised that I was a numpty and had connected up the wrong terminal (there are two). Now works fine. Got the sender from Peninsular cars, Exeter.
Have to say the guys there were very helpful, got a stetherscope to listen to see if there was any noticable cam noise. Seems ok. Then they checked the throttle pot and airflow meter readings all at no cost. Good service.
BTW mine is 94 with black gauges too.
