Ok, so im tempted to change the Griff 500 for a 4.2 Cerbera, car in question has covered 37K miles, I was wondering how these engines cope with miles and if there was any camshaft wear issues as with the rover V8?

Any other cerbera specific issues would also be appreciated.

Cheers in advance

Mines on about 52k miles and just having new cams, think its fairly common with cars at about that millage.

Apart from that though, brilliant engine. biggrin

Simon, had the previous owners had any rebuild work done ?

Looking at you blog, I'm guessing you bought it with 80k on the clock.

What's it's oil consumption like at the moment ?

I bought it at 82k miles four and a half years ago. Andy at APM did the pre-purchase inspection and has looked after it since.

He checked with the factory, and the engine had not been back for a rebuild. That was back in the day when only the factory was rebuilding AJPs.

Oil consumption seems to be about a litre per 1000 miles, has been like that since I got it.

bet you don't miss it when you hit yer new throttle, no growl... but a whole new experience of pops and bangs with a banshee overture. The only downside i find with the cerb is that it isnt a droptop. But i soon get over it with the aircon on and and that wonderful amount of pedal travel cloud9

What year or model did the AJP engine show up or is it as standard in 4.2 and 4.5 models for the cerbera?

Cerb 4.5 72k, no engine rebuilds at all... regularly serviced/ oil checked very often. It consumes no more oil than it ever has done (we've had it since 4k miles) and makes *exactly* the same power as it did back when it was 20k miles old - well, it does if we revert back to the standard chip/induction - it is infact currently running better than ever... smile

Stunning engine.

Search "Speed Trials" to see how a 72k mile old TVR Cerbera performs in the real world; as a spoiler - you'll need atleast Ferrari 599GTB to beat it (just) over the 1/4mile on a road surface! Astonishing cars...

Had a test drive at the weekend cloud9

That narrow windscreen will take some getting used too.

If your budget stretches, take a look at the lightweight models (2000 onwards) which have a noticeably larger aperture at the front wink
