Resetting the alarm X300 xjr

please can anyone help with how to reset the alarm/key with my XJR
the batteries in the fob have been replaced and yet it only opens by remote fob on occasion. when you open the door lock with the key I get a beeping sound and have to turn on the ignition and then off again.
the lights on the fob work and i can only assume that the alarm needs resetting.

Sounds like you need to clean the remote. The circuit board can get all sticky under the buttons. A good clean often fixes them , note do not take the battery out for too long or it will need re-programming. How long is too long ? They say 1 minute so you can clean with the battery in if you are careful. When unlocking with the key you need to get the key in the ignition as soon as possible because unlocking by key does not switch off the alarm.
