Most of us buy the TVR for it glorious noise. Im an early starter and usually leave for work around 6.30am. The TVR is my second car and I have a 5 series as a daily runner (I have two small kids). To date I have not taken the TVR to work, despite requests from my work mates.
The reason is the noise I would make when I leave for work, whilst others sleep .

I will take it to work and plan to on nicer days, as everyone in the street should be woken by the sound of the V8 music at some time. evil ....... its a much better noise than the local seaguls (live by the sea in torbay , Devon)

It got me thinking has anybody here actually upset there neighbours with the noise? Id been interested to hear their story biggrin

Frequently, I have a decatted Cerb and often return home at all hours of the night. It's best when you try and drive quietly and set off the neighbours car alarm at 3am hehe

I have never had anything other than good comments from those living on my street, I have a Speed Six now (sports pipes) but did have a V8 and would set off at 5.30am also shaking the car port just to add to the noise, people don't know how lucky they are to be woken up by such cars, an alarm clock has never sounded so good.

I have had no comments from the neighbours about my G33 which if anything is noiser than most TVR's, when i start it up it sets off the alarm on my wife's cupra. I tend to leave the house at 6.20am and live i a very quiet village.

I take the chim in to work sometimes, usually about 7AM so not too early. Sleeved exhaust so a bit noisy, next door neighbour usually comments when I see him ' was she missing a cylinder this morning , sounded rough' or 'your right foot broken, the windows didnt rattle when you pulled away this morning'

One of the other neighbours did tell me she loves it when she wakes up to the windows rattling of a morning. Weyhey !

hehe

I don't use her for work, but sometimes whilst I am getting her out of the garage, somehow or other the neighbours just know, and come over for a gawp. They certainly don't complain, just compliment the V8..

I leave for work at about 6:00am and push my Tiv out of the garage! (I live in a terraced house with the garage inside the house.) I'd love to make the exhaust louder but I would feel guilty!

Having said that it's a deep bassy sound which I think is less penetrating than say a diesel engine.

When i reverse it back into the garage at night, I just can't resist reving it up as it sounds awesome in there!

No complaints yet but I dont leave that early (8.40) or come back that late (6-8)

Very dissapointed that i havn't set off any car alarms yet.... i really must looking into changing the exhaust!! biggrin

I considered the same when I got mine and thought, "What about the neighbours?" I take the Chim to work on fine days and usually set off about 7.30am. House is linked detached and car is in garage and its a bit noisier when I pull it out of the garage because of the echo from the house walls etc.
My immediate neighbours are two old dears that unfortunately I fell out with a couple of years ago and not on speaking terms with. Hopefully I don't think I've rattled their teeth in their bedside glasses or caused them too much alarm or distress. I don't take the car to work everyday or think 7.30am is an unreasonable time to fire up the Chim. Then again they have a hyperactive highly strung poodle dog thing that yaps a lot when they leave it alone in the house which I tolerate (just)
So the choice is simple - enjoy my glorious sounding V8 or the dog dies wink

If I was my neighbour then I would want to be woken up by 'V8 through Stainless steel pipes' morning chorus, what better way to start the day?cool

Trying not to make a noise is worse.

On a 5.30am start a couple of years ago I left the Chim in the drive rather than at the back of the hosue so I could 'creep' out.

I started it and straight away tried to ease my way down the road - the trouble was that it was perming anything between 1 and 8 cylinders for the first 100 yards as it hadn't really fired up properly and sounded dreadful. My wife told me to just drive it properly next time.

I've got a decatted, cherry bomb'd 450 and its not so much loud, but the deep exhaust note which appears to travel.
So early morning starts and late arrivels i have a pair of trackday silencers.
I just bang these on before i arrive/leave for 1/4 mile, works really well.
I actually bought them for trackday use mind, but its a wickedly handy toy being able to quash a large amount of noise

Thanks

Matt

None that admit it to me, but the kids know when I'm on my way back - they can hear me for a good few minutes!

Fired her up at 07:30 prompt every day for 3 years (Chim 400 and 500 with 'improved' exhausts) whistle
The girl over the road said she knew it was time to get up every day when she heard her bathroom mirror vibrate!
