Last month i got caught using my mobile phone whilst driving, i have only just got round to sending off a cheque. I was reading through the yellow motorist's copy & noticed an error! The PC has written on the slip the wrong road / street name! I was caught on OTLEY ROAD & not OTLEY STREET!.

Anything i can do to get out of it?

Cheers in advance

Is that Otley Road, Harrogate?

I don't think a small error like that would make too much difference, to be honest.

No, it has no real bearing on the actual offence and mistakes are allowed to be made.

You'd have had more luck if it was the date which was wrong and you could prove you were elsewhere!

You're welcome!
BTW Otley Road is the A6069, Otley STREET merges into Otley ROAD from a westerly direction and IIRC the 'Cop shop' is perched on that same junction....

About 10 years ago I was stopped with alleged excess speed offence. At the time I was driving a Ford Escort van. The ticket said 'Ford Transit'.

Could it have been a similar technicality to contest in court?

(I didn't argue, I just paid)

Correct! I was caught by the junction of King's Street, further up Otley Road.

Is it only an offence if you're in a road rather than a street? - Streaky
