Well, having decided not to drink at the pub quiz last night, and subsequently dive instead, I had a little mishap upon leaving. It awas the usual cold Edinburgh night, and as expected, the lads all wanted a lift home in the cerb. Its not far, so I thought- "this 'll teach 'em" and decided to let 3 of them squeeze into the car. As you will know, 2 big blokes in the back of a cerbera doesnt allow for much rear visibility. The result is a 3 point turn that ends like this:

I've been advised that DH Autoworks is a good place in Edinburgh for tiv repairs, but the guy mentioned something like £900 a litres for paint!yikes

Anyone got any idea how much a repair like this should cost, and indeed if tvr pain really is that dear?

Hard to know really, most people go through the insurance. I'm guessing that's more expensive than when you want to pay for it yourself, if you get my meaning smile

How far have the stress cracks gone ? Have a fumble about under the rear wheel arch on that side, and see if it's still smooth.

I've had the same quarter repaired / replaced twice due to other drivers/maniacs. Might be worth emailing the picture to someone like John at Ewellme, to get an idea of price.

Mulsanne Motors in Dalkeith quoted me pretty reasoably for a full respray. They're a Bentley/RR specialist, but they're who Alan MacDonald uses for servicing/repair work. The number is 0131 654 9331.

I'll keep an eye (and ear!) out for you around town...

I think I've heard of some of the special paints being 500 quid a litre? Not certain though. When I had a Chimaera around 3 years ago I had a small incident with a towbar going through the GRP at the front - probably a similar sized bump as you have. A TVR specialist bodyshop type place reckoned 2-3 grand to fix it which involved lots of hours of fibreglassing & then a front end respray or alternatively some more £'s for a new front quarter fitted & sprayed. In the end I paid a mate some whiskey to do the fibreglassing, bought the paint myself & got a front end respray for around 600 quid ish.
I would say you want to do it through insurance unless you've got some handy contacts.

Last week my dad was quoted £500 per litre for Rosso Pearl paint to get his tuscan repaired, so £900 sounds a bit steep to me!

I bought a 1/4 litre of Crimson Starmist for touching up a stone chip for £14 from an auto paint specialist.

As it happens I gave Alan McDonald a phone to see who he goes to, and he put me on to D H Autosprayers. They were the ones that were saying £900 a litre for paint.

It does seem excessive to me, seeing as how tvr paints are just taken from other manufactures aren't they? They did seem like they knew what they were doing tough- when I was in I saw porsches, astons and a fezza, so they clearly have a god reputation.

In the end I think I'll just go with a quote I've been given for £580. They're a garage that do all the bmw's/mercs in Perth, and the guy promises that afterwards it will be PERFECT.

Lets bloody hope so- the last thing I want is to de-value my P&J because it looks as if it "could" have been in a smash at some point.

By the way- I'm 22, so sadly insurance doesn't bare thinking, not if I want to get insured again for less than 2 grand. Ah the joys of youth...

The fact that there were Fezzas, Porkers, etc is why they quote £900 a litre - because they can.
More money doesn't always mean the best.

It looks purely cosmetic, so try one of those scratchaway places, they're bloody good some of them and not expensive.

Your car looks a fairly standard silver - Ford Starmist???

Don't get fleeced mate.

I'm determined not to get fleced, but like any of us, I'd rather pay a grand for a proper repair than 300 quid for a botch. Like I said, the place thats quoted £580 promise perfection, and since they have contracts with the local bmw/merc dealers I would trust that they'll look after it appropriately.

Its just annoying, cos while I don't mind spending money to keep the car tip top and to make improvements, this sort of thing is nether maintenance or improvment. Just got to suck it up though.

Car goes in tomorrow anyway. They cant look at it till next week, but quite honestly it pisses me off seeing my car like this; feels like I'm somehow letting the side down by driving around with a dent in my bumper- best to have it fixed so that I can forget it ever happened!
