New defender owner

Hello All

Just bought (in a moment of madness) a Defender Pick up

Not collected it yet but I know it is:-

1985 C reg
Pickup
Blue
Tatty
2.5 diesel engine
Power steering
Mot’ed and taxed

Hope to use for trips to the tip etc and generally annoying the neighbors

I have basic ability with a spanner and keeping it maintained/serviced etc is something I am looking forward to. Where do I start with regards information, any other useful links or sites?

Well, you could download the service manuals if you can find a dodgy site with them on, ahem.

If I were you, I would change the engine oil and filter, fuel filters and the hypoy 90 gear oil in the front hub swivels, front and rear axles and transferbox. Finally change the main gearbox oil - IIRC correctly yours will have an LT77 box which bizarrely takes ATF fluid. Once you've got all that done and you've greased the props, it should drive far nicer as most people can't be arsed on a 22 year old 110!
