Changing Fuel Filter
Discussion
Hey all, I'm new to the board and I've been browsing around looking for a run-down on how to change the Fuel Filter on a '89 SE. I'd appreciate any info on this process.
I've recently taken over working on a friends SE, which has been stored for a while. Before that, the car has a questionable service history. I am curious as to what all you guys would recommend changing/inspecting.
Thanks for any help,
~Michael

The fuel filter for a '89 is a WIX 33481 and _not_ a WIX 33279. I believe the 33279 listed on the fact file and other sites is for Bosch injected cars, i.e., '88. This (33481) also fits _many_ GM EFI cars such as a '89 Caddie Eldorado V8.
I have confirmed this by putting a 33481 on my car. Perfect replacement. Cost was about $13 at O'Reilly's Auto Parts.
I put a coffee can under the ends when I took the connections off to catch the gas. Good idea to let it sit a while first and have a cold motor. Also, the bracket that holds the filter is bolted to the
bulkhead (10mm heads). Take the two bolts out to remove the filter and bracket. The bottom nut is not captive, so don't drop it. Then undo the pinch bolt on the bracket holding the filter (8mm heads, not
captive again). I took a Dremmel Brand Moto-Tool and cut a slot in the bracket for the bottom bolt so _next time_ I just have to loosen the lower bolt and slide the bracket off. Make sure everything is tight and check for leaks.
