Mine had this problem "customer service" has been useless so I ended up buying the parts from ebay and doing it myself. This has put me off VW and getting anything from them in the future. (VW if you are listening good service is what keeps people coming back to a brand not advertising).

This is not a broken regulator clip problem.
I've found that this can be caused by the window meeting too much resistance on the way up.
I've read on vortex and ukmkivs that it could possibly be a nut that holds the window in place is too tight and needs slight loosening. Taking a door panel off a mark iv ain't that fun though.
Best bet is to probably try searching ukmkivs for the exact problem since I can't totally recall it. Oh, try some silicon spray first to see if it helps.

hmmm yeh ive actually got this problem with my mk5 gti at the moment!
Same on ours. It’s strange, it did it randomly over a few week period then just worked normally ever since. Sods law, it’s usually just as you’re blasting down the sliproad onto the m’way, put the window up, and it goes straight back down...slightly annoying getting a hurricane-force blast in the face!

IM LOOKING FOR ANYONE YOU CAN HELP ME WITH MY ELECTRIC WINDOW PROBLEMS, THE PROBLEM IS, WHEN YOU FLICK THE SWITCH TO AUTO CLOSE WINDOW, THE WINDOW MOVES UP ABOUT 4 INCH THEN GOES BACK DOWN?????
I HAVE READ THIS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT NEVER SEEN A SOLUTION.......
I've had this problem on the rear windows on my A6. It is because the window mechanism is meeting too much 'resistance' and assumes there is a 'blockage' and thus drops the window again.I HAVE READ THIS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT NEVER SEEN A SOLUTION.......
This is actually a safety feature, e.g. if a kid has their head/arm/whatever stuck out the window and the switch is flicked to close the window, the system senses the resistance and automatically drops the window again.
The problem is that there can be something causing more mechanical and/or frictional resistance to the window/mechanism and it trips this safety feature.
I had mine "adjusted" under warranty a few years ago by an Audi dealer (not sure exactly what was done), which did alleviate the problem, but I do still get this problem re-occur every so often - It is intermittent. You can over-ride this by keeping the switch pulled up until the window is fully closed - a bit of a pain, but at least it works. BUT, if when doing this, you notice a slow-down of the window closing, then there is a significant 'resistance' and you should get this checked/adjusted immediately, before damage to the motor/mechanism occurs!
Hope that helps
