Anyone have some lying about that they dont need ? Id like to try a set on mine, as I think my YT's are causing me problems.

I have some coming from the US.....well, they are supposed to be coming. But as always, not when they told me they would, which was last week.

What do yu think the issue is with your YT's. I am sure that Monkfish have a second hand set if you are desperate.

erm might have - bought a 2nd hand set of heads (<1500miles) for spares and to have flowed, assume the rockers are on them, know 1 valve is missing but not sure on the rockers. Will try take a look in the morning, though they are at the back of the shed and not the easiest to get in at - wish I'd seen this earlier as I was in there earlier and they were right at my feet in their boxes.

Are you using 1.8s and getting geometry issues?

My engine has always been crap at high rpm's ( 7k )

And the rockers are the only thing that I have used on every build Ive driven. A lot of the US guys arent fond of these old YT's claiming they are far too heavy, claiming similar symptoms.

I did discover that the installed spring height was way off, therefor seat pressure nowhere near what it should be. Ive sorted this, and it is improved. But still not right.

Although the urgency might be off.....Ive just blown it up lol. Although it did get to 7k biggrin

Either way I'd like a set to try. If there are some knocking about locally its easier and quicker than getting them from the US.

I have a set of YT's here and have to say the quality is excellent hence why I asked if you have geometry issues with a 1.8. What do the Oz guys think about Yt's? I'd listen to them before the yanks as I had a set of cranes recently which were crap in the quality dept compared to YT's. As said before the yanks do like to blow up a lot of stuffsmile

No, 1.7's Ive always been using. And high rpm's has always been a struggle. See above about springs etc.

YT's new Ultralights are supposed to be very good though.

Given cam profiles etc, I would not use 1.8's unless it was on a standard cam.

Seems strange, I'd suspect your spring settings before the rockers. Lots of ls engines rev to 7k with stock rockers which are actually very good. So you think the YT's are heavier and slowing you up? You should still hit 7k with them? Gotta go.

Im not disputing the quality of the YT's Just that they may not be ideal, and yes they are defo a lot heavier than a stock rocker.

And yes, the stock rockers are almost the rocker of choice these days. Light, cheap, and they work, even at high rpms !!

But I do also agree....the spring pressures etc need sorted fully..and they almost were !

sorry no rockers - just checked the boxes. Deal was for the heads so I'm not that surprised. Good luck with finding a set elsewhere. As an aside though would you recommend the YT's over stock for performance in a weekend cruiser as opposed to a drag strip queen? I was under the impression a decent set of 1.7's was a worthwhile upgrade if you're doing the rest of the valvetrain?

Stock ones as mentioned are pretty good. Though some heads require roller tipped rockers due to geometry, ie TFS heads. Most guys go with 1.7:1 rockers because most cams are ground to suit that ratio. As Stevie says you need to either use the 1.8's with stock lift or lower aftermarket lift cams which are in the minority.
For all out performance builds guys will use 1.7 ratio roller tips because there is less side loading with high lift cams on a roller tip.
A light rocker is required for high rpm operation, well light everything really, light retainers, locks, valves, rods, pistons etc..
