250 2 stroke or 450 4 stroke motocrosser?

I only want a mad toy for the farm. I'm not a serious motoXer so what's just plain more fun/daft. Please, none of this 'a 125 will be enough until your more experienced blah blah', it's not. I'd have a nice 500 two stroke if I could find one. I want banzai. Which is most banzai?

Im currently riding a KTM 450exc-r 2008 model which is absolutley awesome. Its light enough so that its quite flickable and not too much hard work, and its very quick. I went onto the 450 from a 250 4 stroke, and the 450 is massivley better. It has much more torque and it feels alot smoother to ride.

I havent ridden a 250 2 stroke only a 4 stroke, but if I was you I'd go for the 450 every time..

I had a KTM 500 2-smoke, Banzai it was but a right royal pain in the arse (or rather foot) to start due to the extremely high compression and high proabability of a kickback, It got to the point where I couldn't be arsed to ride it much due to how long it would take to get going. Also very high maintenance and often suffered major breakdowns.

I would get a larger 4 stroke if I were after another (preferably something with electric start) I think you'll find it powerful enough.

I currantly own a Yam YZ250, it's plenty banzai for me and being a two stroke, not that hard to repair the engine if it goes boom. Plenty of power and light! Front end comes up easy, and a kick up the ar5e when the 40 odd HP kicks in. Haven't ridden a big 4stroke so cant comment, but they are highly strung and would imagine fixing the engine will be £££. Ride both they are soo diferent!

One thing that could drive your decision is NOISE. The 4 stroke will make a lot of it. The two stroke is a lot quieter. The timbre of the noise is also different. Two strokes tend to whine or buzz. Four strokes ROAR and deliver a deeper noise that irritates more people. If you have neighbours who might get arsey get the two stroke.

yeah 2 strokes sound like chainsaws (unsurprisingly) but the 4 strokes sound a bit farty. Niether sounds great, but a single cylinder can't really. I've only ridden 2 strokes and I like the silly powerbands. The only thing that appeals about the 4 stroke is easier wheelies.

just ordered 2008 KX 250. Could be a classic! Honda have axed the CR250 and Kawasaki won't be offering the KX in the States. The two strokes' days are numbered but not for me! Can't wait. Picking up soon. Reviews on the KX are very good and it's the stroker of choice for many journos at the moment.
