Our new finance website.......comments welcomed........
Discussion
Well, for the last 6 months my company has been developing in conjunction with a finance broker a new car finance website.
On there you will find general finance examples, balloon and straight finance calculators, explanations of financial terms, and even a full online application using 128bit SSL.
I am slowly releasing the address this week, our adverts go live tomorrow on PH, and for anyone looking for finance it is a must to visit, use the calculators or even apply for finance as it is fully working now.
http://www.pre-approvedfinance.co.uk
Would appreciate any feedback, either via the site or here, but please could you keep it website relevant or PM me if you would prefer to say offline.
I guess it all came about from my use of finance for cars and wanted to offer something I felt was missing in the market and was lucky enough to have met the owner of the finance brokerage buying cars, new we could work togeather due to his great work ethics, hence where the vision came from.
Hope you all enjoy using the calcs and the site in general as it grows, as this is purely the beginning of something alot bigger as very soon the members section of it will be online and the other services offerred in there I think will be very useful to alot of prestige car owners.

My 2 pence worth:
Loan calculator screen
- Why does the screen flash when I select an item in the finance term or ballon amount list?
- When I tab across the screen the text boxes do not have their contents highlighted/selected. This means I have to highlight the previous entry to type something new in. It's a minor point granted.
- When you tab to the Finance Term or Ballon Amount, the normal action would be to press cursor down to scroll through the values. If you do this it select just the next value and exits the combo box. This is not intuitive.
- When the screen redraws, which it does numerous times. It doesn't remember how far I have scrolled down the screen. On my 1028x768 laptop this means that I hit the calculate button and I then have to scroll down again to see the numbers!
General
- Your Terms and Conditions are completely unreadable!
- And you must have the ability to opt out of your rather onerous clause that states:
"There may be times when we feel that a service or product offered by us may be of interest to you. We may use information we obtain from your application in this decision-making process. To make you aware of the service or product we may contact you by mail, telephone, fax, e-mail...." etc
Hope this helps

thanks chap for taking the time to note them down.
I will pass these on to the developer.
I'm sure we can do some things better, and I know what ya mean about the laptop screen but I guess thats a tough one to fix as we did design the site with things in mind like 800x600 viewing but appreciate the comments.
Cheers

If the site is 8x6 specific, go and kick the developer to do a flexible version, otherwise its going to look quite odd on the larger widescreens out there.
Slightly bigger fonts for the small print please.
Can understand the big button thing, but it does look a little, umm "primary colours" at the minute. Perhaps a slightly more muted colour scheme might class it up a little?

Hard to explain why, but it just looks a bit amateur at the moment.
As others have stated, surely you can get a flexible screen which changes for various screen sizes.
No mention of APR either. Why not be able to enter your own (as I assume people know what they should be paying).
I prefer this http://www.grosvenor-butterworth.co.uk/car_loan_ca...

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated, and always hard to digest when your so emotionally in it.
Just to cover some points.....
TBH there is alot of factors for an APR to be calculated and alot of FSA regulations around displaying it so it's a trcky area.
Also we feel our calc has some sensible lending policies around it like no more than 65% balloon and a reasonale loan rate and also a validation that would be the same as processed in a dealers which the butterworth calc whilst good, just doesn't do. They do state that the APR doesn't include the the setup fee, but all loan docs tell us that the setup fee actually slightly alters the rate of APR so that statement really doesn't make sense to me but I might have it wrong. Anyway not wanting to slag their calc off as it's not bad, just not as functional and realistic in rates or sceanrios as ours tbh without going into the business logic of it all.
The site does need a bit of graphical work around it I agree, and if the previous people hadn't let us down I think it could have been alot better but if we kept it offline and made it look better then we'd maybe have lost out to other coming along doing anything similar, and there is another few phases to this site to had to start somewhere.
Cheers

As mentioned the APR and total amount payable not being shown stood out to me. Also IMO the design looks ok for the multitude of 'sub-prime' lenders but maybe a more refined aesthetic would be suitable to the market you are looking to attract?
Other than that, well done and good luck with it

Thanks again for the feedback, and ignore my FSA comment I was taking out my arse again, it is not valid to us, my mistake as I'm more involved with the technical side of things.
We have taken the site offline for the moment but we have taken your comments on board and hopefully when it comes back up the site should offer what mostly everyone seems to want with a bit extra thrown in for good measure.
If there is anymore comments, I would appreciate them maybe next week as we'll put them into any change releases we have.
So COB Friday it will be back, all the more pleasure for your vitual tyre kicking weekend............
Thanks guys
Paul.

Paul,
You've mentioned a few times that your PH advertising campaign was going live this week .... is this for this finance site that you are working on, or is it specifically for Ping ITS?
Many thanks in advance,
K
