Right then, lets see if you all want to put your post where your mouth is and clear this up once and for all.
All your replies should be one team answers, no need for an explaination. Where do you think he's going to go? I'll add them up (if we get enough answers.) and see what the consenus is.

Here goes;

I can see the Williams argument, but I don't think they have enough in place at this stage to bring a top driver on board for next season, unless they can do something with a major manufacturer.

Renault is a possibility too.

What about Prodrive? New F1 team in 2008 but between Dave Richards and Alonso they could get the sponsorship to make this happen and produce a competitive car. Subaru backing them with engines? Or Ford could well be interested in this.

Unlikely, but here's what I'd do:

Toyota buy Alonso out of McLaren contract.

Rebrand Williams Toyota as Williams Lexus and put Alonso in there with a bit more funding coming from Japan.

That way they could have a world champion racing for Lexus, which would mean that when Williams (yet again) comprehensively whoop Toyota, this time with a double WDC it's beneficial rather than embarrassing. Extra money from Japan could turn Williams back into a World Championship contending squad.

Having Williams running Lexus engines would mean the performance of the two 'works' teams would fit with the positioning of Toyota's brands.

How about that for marketing.

Very sharp marketing!

I don't see Toyota have the will to do that though. I see the subtext at Toyota along the lines of "well we've been in F1 about 5 years, we've got 2 decent drivers, and got no where. We haven't sold tons more taxis, 4X4s and people carriers as a result and now we've been trounced by Williams with customer engines that are probably the only think in F1 we actually make any money from."

It might be an internal struggle there, but I don't see them now saying let's throw a whole lot more moeny at it, hire a demanding expensive driver, put another brand on the line, a luxury car brand that's doing well anyway, only to see it trounced by Mercedes.
