Best Steering Wheel for PS2

Hi- I've got a number of driving games (well my son's really!) on PS2 including F1 2001 (getting 06 soon), Colin McRae Rally 03, GT4 and TOCA3 and I mainly use the standard controller. Did buy a cheap steering wheel (4Gamers type) a couple of years ago but not used it much as response isn't very good (you need to turn it far more than you would in reality, esp for a racing car).

Now thinking of upgrading to a better wheel but not sure which is best and given that some of these can be really expensive would like to know if anyone has any views on the best wheel for the job-something with force feedback & compatible with at least the games above. So far Logitec Driving Force EX looks best although costs more than a PS2 console!

I've got the Driving Force Pro, and well worth the money (Even if expensive). you may want to wait and get the G25 if your planing on getting a PS3 and playing GT5. all depends on budget.

Driving Force Pro -for sure. It'll work in GT5 too.

Yes will work well with GT5 but it does not have a clutch.

True. TBH I hardly ever use my h-shift! Wouldnt downgrade to a DFP though

I've got the original driving force wheel that came with GT3 taking up space in my attic, would let that go for £20.

Another vote for Driving Force Pro. I have tried a few different wheels over the years, and the 'cheap' ones were all cp. The Driving Force Pro is a real revelation... Although it WILL take you a little while to get "used to it"... but after you have, it will undoubtedly improve your 'virtual' lap times, as well as your enjoyment.

A point to note - make sure you can get a nice comfy set-up, otherwise it will spoil the experience. THE BEST experience is with a proper driving chair/mount for the wheel and pedals, but few people have the room for one of those! (...Nor want to spend the extra money!)

my friend just game round and I let him play GT5 Prologue Demo, and he could not belive how real it felt. with the DFP. was funny watching him try and stay on the track.

Just one thing to note though, the force-feedback mechanism does make quite a bit of noise when you turn the wheel - can be slightly off-putting to start with, but you do get used to it (and I suppose most, if not all FF wheels, would do the same?)

Still highly recommend the DFP!!

I'm tempted to upgrade to a G25, but only if I can sell my DFP, is as good as new and is the GT version, I think I still have the box.

I had a DFP for ages and a big fan but upgraded to G25 about 6 months ago.
Must admit it is a superior wheel - couldnt praise it more. Tried the ole DFP the other day and it makes it seem pants! Never thought that would happen!

But i do have the full kit of a Vision Racer too, G25 just sets it off

I had a Logitech driving force and then upgraded to a driving force pro once that broke, and sadly the first one was much better for simple reasons really. The old steering wheel shook when you collided or went over bumps whereas the new one doesn't. Given that the new one is £70 I think it's a total con. It was much more realistic when the old one vibrated over the armco, or when you hit another car. Am I missing something?

I got the DFP last week from Amazon, and it is meant to be compatible with my PS3 according to the box, and I have made sure that i have played it with compatible games (F1'O6 PS3, GT4, Colin McRae PS3 etc), as well as altering the set up in the menu, but to no avail.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I'm wondering if it's broken.

Grrr you could have bought mine of me.

But mine works fine on the PS3.
Just remember to use the buttons on the wheel.

When you plug it in and run a game does it do the auto start where the wheel auto rotates itself.

Thanks for your reply, yes it does do the self rotation and force feedback is definitely working, but the steering wheel doesn't jolt or vibrate if you hit another vehicle or go over a rumble strip. I would have thought it should given that the Driving Force did.

I've tried it on the PS3 for Dirt, F1'06 (PS3 edition) and GT4 but it isn't much good on any of them.

Logitech aren't much use on this.

I'll have another try on mine tonight on the PS3, as on the PS2 in GT4 you can def feel the rumble strips etc.
