There is a 22B amongst us...
Discussion
Everyone's favourite sideways meister, Smifffy, formally of P1 aerobatics, recently a dalliante in conflgrante de licto with a comely but ultimately unloved E39 M5 has just informed me of his purchase not 1 hour gone.
A museum piece 22B.
Apparently, Smifffy might "come along to Vmax just to spectate" but after he'd realised the folly of such absurdity, I assured him there would be many canditates to christen his passenger window with ceremonial licking fluid.
I think he agreed this made immense sense.
Ergo, I'd like to take this oppo to wish Andy and his new mistress a happy and fulfilling time together.
Well done, old bean. Piccies when you're ready...

Just look at those hips... ooooooooh.
Initial Impressions:
I've driven it for around 100 miles on motorway and back roads now so it's early days but...
The overall impression is one of being 'special'. It feels a bit like Scooby royalty if that makes any sense. Driving it is a real event.
Pulling away the first thing you notice is the clutch. It's heavy and grabby compared to the P1 and I found it uncomfortable for the first 30 mins or so. With practice it started to feel more positive and more 'weapons grade' compared to the unit in the P1. I still had the odd unintentional flying start from traffic lights etc but who's complaining?
The second thing is the close ratio box. The best description is frantic - The car is urging you to gun it everywhere so it's something I'll get used to! The pedals are closer toegther for heel and toe which is cool so at the end of the drive yesterday I was quite happy with clutch/gearbox/changing.
Overall power is fine - the close ratio box makes it feel quick, but I suspect its running around the same overall output as the P1, although there's more spin up time with the turbo on the 22b.
The suspension setup will take a little more time to evaluate. Playing with a couple of roundabouts there's quite a bit of initial understeer which I'll look to dial out with settings and maybe tweaking a roll bar. If you're brutal of course you can drift it through but I only played a couple of times on well known roundabouts with lots of space so difficult to pass judgement yet.
It did hook up on a large roundabout junction between 2 A roads and once it's planted it felt utterly solid, with controlled body roll and good, firm damping when it exited under power. As I say, I'll get to know it gradually. I'd hate to be reporting the death of 33/400 at any point... Mind you, the wife's driving it today
The final bit has to be the looks. Oh lordy I'm smitten. Can't wait to drive it again tonight.

Full story to follow, but for now the piccies. They're hosted on my home machine here so if anyone wants to take them and put them on a properly hosted account, that'd be cool
clicky clicky
Iirc, it was an early edition of EVO mag which ran a 1 page article on this wonder machine: it went along the lines of a bloke whose 911 Turbo (a 993) had just been effectively mauled on a B road by the said beastie.
The 911 owner got back and chucked his keys to the ground in dismay.
I've followed Andy's old P1 and it was very much a forlorn task, like Richtoven chasing a foo fighter.

I remember trying to keep up with Smifffy in his P1 on 'that' road just before Brunters - and remembering that after about two corners realising that if I continued at this pace any further I'd be upside down having gone backwards through a hedge The 911 owner got back and chucked his keys to the ground in dismay.

Insanely quick with the right driver
guys, guys, guys.
You can have a mint P1 with around 20-25k on the clock for 14k of your English pounds. 'tis a bargain and I urge you all to do it RIGHT NOW. DeR - You know this is pocket money for such an able motor and I'm seriously tempted by a track slag P1 next year with a certain gentleman from Hook, Hampshire.
Sadly the 11th Nov is Portsmouth Vs Man City and I'm booked. It'll have to be the next one, which is fine 'cos there are a few tweaks that need to be done beforehand. And *then* I'll have some fun. Muahahaha.
