My first few weeks with a Gallardo
Discussion
Some of you might have worked out by now that I bought Mosi's old Gallardo. It had spent most of its life being serviced by Lambo HW and Mosi spoke highly of them so I decided to have them come and pick that car up rather than drive up the road to Lambo London for its next service.
I have to say i'm glad I did and can't fault them in any way. Very polite and honest. I had a pre-purchase inspection before buying car which raised a number of minor issues. I asked LHW to sort them at the service but much to my surprise they said it wasn't necessary and the car was in perfect condition needing nothing other than normal service. Not sure I can think of another dealer that wouldn't of just skinned me for the hell of it.
I also asked them to check clutch wear, and at 6000 mile since last clutch it is 60% worn. Just as a point of reference. New clutch, when it is needed will be the upgraded racing clutch.
The car is great, real head turner especially with the tubi. I went to see a friend at the weekend who said she thought a plane was about to crash into her house. Not sure that is how I would describe it, but funny none the less.
Having driven high power 911 turbo's all my life, with zero driver aids, i've always driven well with in my limits knowing only to well that the car is constantly trying to kill you. With the G I was shocked at how much quicker I was covering well know roads. To the point that I actually felt quite concerned that modern driver aids and having the engine in a sensible place might actually result in a reduced life expectancy.
Parked on the Kings road it is constantly being photographed and at one stop to pick up a take away, some kid literally jumped in the driver seat as I was getting in to see "How fast does it go mister?"
Now thinking about some BBS light weight race wheels and seeing if there is an official ecu upgrade that lambo can provide.
Only a week or 2 before it's joined by the 911 turbo back from JUDD.

As a reference for you, the stock fronts wheels weigh 11kgs, with a P Zero Rosso weighing in at 9kgs. My good friend NEO says the Callisto rims weigh slightly more than the stockers. Sorry but I haven't weighed the rears. If you're going for BBS wheels there's every likelyhood that they will weigh what they're supposed to weigh (The TuF standards make sure of this). Same goes for Hamman. (I'm reliably told the Hamman 20' wheels weigh 1.5 kgs less than the stock ones).
Just make sure you're getting the weight reducion that you're paying for. With the exception of those mentioned you may end up with a heavier wheel, which defeats the point.
BTW, if you intend to change wheel diameters, be carefull. It's vital that you end up with the same rolling circumference as the original 19' wheel or you could suffer from winding the diff up and all manner of TC issues.
It might also be worth your while finding out how much the Corsa's weigh (being a more track oriented tyre it may have a lighter construction. Ditto Michelin Pilots. It may be that you can acheive a weight saving simply by fitting a different tyre (preferably the Pirelli's as it won't throw your TC out of wack).
Hope some of this helps and congrats on the car.
