My first breakdown. Accelerating hard uphill when all of a sudden, no power. Engine running, but no power. Now, not being particularly mechanically minded, I called the AA assuming the throttle cable or something had snapped, and you know it, I wasn't far off. AA man fixed it with a cable tie. Now, can anyone help me with what has actually gone missing/broken, where I can get a new one and how can I fix it? Thanks, Matt

Is that cable tie the 'get you home' bodge? If so that's bad news. The extension shaft is supposed to keye into the end of the throttle spindle; if it's failed there then it suggests the end has been broken off the shaft (how you managed *that* I have no idea). There's a remote possibility that the assembly on the far end of the extension shaft has come undone allowing it to come out of engagement, but I think you'd see everything flapping around if that were the case.

If you have snapped the end of the shaft off then try rimmer bros as its an SD1 range rover bit

Trying to remember how far that extension shaft engages, and TBH I can't remember without going out into the cold (and I'm too lazy for that!). See whether you can get it reengage by holding the throttle spindle closed against it's stop and turning the extension shaft the other way (i.e. taking the load off that cable tie) while pushing it towards the throttle. I have a suspicion that you will be on a hiding to nothing though. The right way to fix this will be to disconnect the throttle cable from the clevis pin, and take the plenum top off so you can get at it properly. You'll need to disconnect the stepper motor, throttle pot, vac line etc but it's only a ten minute job. Just be absolutely paranoid about dropping any tools/parts/rubbish into the exposed engine intake while you have the plenum off, or it's potentially goodbye engine. (Still sure you want to do it yourself?)
