Hi, just moved into a new house, its on a tiny road with parking on either side of the road, however its often full and i have to park miles away.
outside our garage is a white line like this : {-------} (a big white I shape)
can i park on the line due to the fact the line is only outside our garage? (garage is too small to get car in)
i wouldnt be blocking anyone else's access.
please can some one enlighten me on the law of this!
thanks in advance,
Rhys

Sure someone will be able to confirm but I think they are only advisory.

Those kinds of white lines (with a T on either end) aren't enforceable.

As far as I am concerned the lines are there to protect your access, so by all means you may park your car in that area!!!

Edge of main carriageway at junctions and exits from private drives.......markings (advisory)

Just check down the road to ensure that there are no signs to the effect that there is a special enforcement area in relation to parking opposite a dropped kerb. Offence under Traffic Management Act 2004.
(But exempt are people who reside at the house of the drive where dropped kerb is present - unless a shared drive.)

Is it normally OK to park opposite a driveway then?

(Hmm...I think I'll start another thread, as I've something else to add)

Does this man never cease to amaze.
DVD - do you just know all of this stuff through years on the job or do you always carry a complete reference library of motoring law with you at all times.

Parking opposite a dropped kerb where no special enforcement area is involved then the argument is that if you block someone in then you are obstructing the free passage of the highway - offence Highways Act. Not so if they want to get in as drive is not a highway.

.......but it is rather naughty eh?
