Heading up to Fernies next week for the 'exhaust treatment' and just wondered what they actually do? Not really fussed if it sounds as good as everyone says, but just interested?

I spoke to Brian about this not so long ago - I'm thinking of getting it done when I take mine in for a service in 1000 miles or so... Probably around Christmas. I'd be really (REALLY) interested to hear yours after you've had it done. I'm in SW London but usually work in Worthing one or two days a week.

From speaking to Brian, they open up the silencer box (which can be found under the centre of the car) and remove all on the cladding. They then remove the perforated pipes and weld in 2 solid pipes making it a straight through system as far as the silencer is concerned. They then weld the silencer back up and put it back on the car.

I had mine done a month ago.

Do it.

It sounds fantastic, really deep burble, its not subtle, a nice gurgle and quiet pops on overrun. Has made me really enjoy driving the car even more.

I live in SW1 if anyone wants to hear it.

Fernies did mine a year or so ago. Terrified myself when I first tried some enthusiastic driving, but awesome now. Neighbours and mother less keen, but think that's a good thing.

SW17 if you fancy a listen - picking it up from the garage tomorrow afternoon.

Have mine booked in at Fernies for next Wed. You're welcome to come round for a spin/listen when you're next down this way buddy.

Thanks for the info on what they do, I thought it would be something along those lines.

Can't wait!!

They are north of Midhurst in Sussex. Just type in Fernhurst in your route finder.

Plan to have mine done February time at Fernhurst, birthday present from Mrs 'P', can't wait after hearing the purple chimaera that's in the workshop, I was sold instantly, nearly messed my trousers when it fired up.

Sorry to be a spoil sport and it is each to his own, however mine was sleeved by the people that have been mentioned a couple of times for the previous owner. One of the welded in pipes now seems to have become detached and is rattling about inside the box. I am taking the opportunity to go back to standard, which is what I would have preferred from the start. All this loud for loud’s sake seems just a tad MaxPOwer to me.

Wow! I haven't smiled so much in a very long time! Brian at Fernies is a top guy. It has taken a few miles (i.e. the 50 mile journey home to bed in) but the exhaust is now making all the noises I was hoping for. Doesn't sound max power at all, just bloody frightening!! It really lowers the tone of the exhaust note on idle and just sounds fantastic through the gears. Well, well worth doing!!!

Dont use cherries...they still have baffles in!!!

I am sure what Fernies do is a very good job...but why cut open the box, weld in two solid pipes and then reweld the box?
Why not cut the box out and weld in two tubes in its place???

Dont listen to That Daddy...he has sensitive hearing...and makes you put uneccassary holes in your chassis....
