My local council has just erected a nice new sign (warning sharp right hand bend slow down) just before the hazard, a bit of a local accident black spot and I'm sure the bloke who lives in the run off area is sick of rebuilding his garden wall
Anyway this sign is of the type seen on the annual trip to Le Mans, plain black board most of the time with come sort of 'camera' above it, go past it a bit too fast and the sign lights up and starts flashing, is the camera linked to anything else or just the sign?

The camera on top your refer to is just a radar sensor to detect your speed. Nothing is recored, it simply triggers the sign if you are over a certain speed.
These seem to be appearing all over the place, and from my experience seem to have a much better impact in reducing speed than scameras...

Hope your right I set if every time I go past but I imagine a Chimaera goes around the bend at the bottom of the hill slightly better than the usual shopping kart that ends up in the poor blokes garden
Good idea though I'm now trying to get it to go off when I'm on my push bike

It will do, but you need to make sure that you get everything right otherwise you too may visit his water feature quicker than you think!

My power to weight ratio is slightly against it at the moment
The corner is quite 'easy' really the highest speed I've seen on my bike 'speedo' was about 40ish but the sign is further up the road on a flatter section of road limiting my speed

For some reason these flashing signs are far more effective at making me slow down. In fact. it's become something of a game seeing if I can get them not to light up as I go through the villages of the A350. The psychology seems to be "you're decent enough to remind me, and so I'm decent enough to take notice."

Being flashed as I accelerate out of a restricted area has a less positive emotional effect.

I recall several cases where the flashing sign appears for a few weeks, followed by a Scamera, Talivan or other speed trap a little later - presumably once they've worked out whether it is a good "income point"... ahem.. I mean "accident blackspot"

I can't see them putting a van there as theres nowhere to park it without causing a traffic jam.
One sad thing about the sign is it was put up in last 2 weeks and already 1/2 of it is hidden by the hedge it is next to, typical council, £1000's on a sign and no money for hedge trimming

I honestly think these things are great, I dont know what it is about them but they really seem to do the trick and not only slow me down when I see them but I maintain a slower speed after them. I think I like them so much because I can see that where they have been placed is actually been thought out and are kindly reminding yo that you are entering a village or danger area.

I dont know if it is the slight embarrassment of them going off and other motorists seeing that you are speeding or something else but I am all for these!

I would like to see more of these rather than scamera's as I think they are 100% more effective!

Yeah. My attitude when I see one of these is that if the State want to trust me to adjust my own speed then I'll repay their trust by obeying the limit.

It's just occured to me that the opposite holds true as well.

The only time I break 30's/40's is if there's a camera and I'm on my bike. Where possible I go in th eoncomng lane and give it beans to try and trip it and save someone 3 points.

Transport Research Laboratory recently did a study and concluded that these warning signs are more effective than speed cameras.

We all need to ask government why they're not digging up Gatsos and replacing them with these devices.

We know the answer, of course, but it's nice to make that dishonest bunch of parasites squirm.........

Agree 100%

They respect me, I respect them. It's known as cooperation and it works...
