Chaps, before i go pulling the thing apart, i would like some expert opinion. My 350 sounds good doesn`t burn oil or smoke and is reliable , but i am disappointed with its performance.I have changed plugs , leads cap, put a K&N filter on etc, but it doesn`t seem that quick.I have messed about with optimax and it just "pinks" mileage is 55k.Could it be cam which history shows was changed at 25k or am i expecting too much out of 3.5?.The thing that really got me was the other night out for a blast and at 80-90 a 1.8 gti Golf 8v was pulling away!.Any comments please chaps before i start spending?

Check the timing first. Something is amiss from what you say. I would normally say to check the compression readings but if you are not going through any oil they are likely to be OK. The cam should last about 80K. Are you sure that there are no leaks in the induction or exhaust sides? Split hoses to the plenum chamber, manifolds and manifold gaskets are not uncommon. Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Jonathan

I disagree about the cam - anything over 40,000 needs checking. Just remove the rocker covers and check all the fingers are moving the same amount when you spin the engine
