I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on here...

No, I am, I hope he takes the SCP to the small claims court for a large-ish small sum.

40p per mile
Wages x hours wasted
Meal allowance for the day
Compensation for the stigma attached to being incorrectly labelled a criinal etc etc

Pay for the travelling and time off but not for the course... the course is [hopefully] non-biased and tells no lies or promotes no half truths... therefore he is improving his driver skill base.

Even if the course improves driver skill, being forced to attend when no crime has been committed should not mean that he should be forced to pay for it....

Whilst I find the subject of the story outrageous, I am genuinely saddened by the state of affairs in our country with regards to traffic enforcement where a man who is sure of his innocence opts to bend over and take one from behind rather than stand up for himself.

You may be right, but he did have a day off, he has improved his driving awareness I am not 100% on this.

I also note the post below you which raises a greater point than mine.

No, I've changed my mind... he should get a full refund for all costs.

Please use round brackets in your post - square ones break the quote-o-matic...

...as you can see here.

These are costs only incurred as a result of the "speeding" offence. If there is no offence he had no reason to incur any costs, he did not go and pay privately for a ridedrive course or similar.

Agree completely. He had not booked this course prior to this event and I assume had no intention of taking this course until he was told (incorrectly) to take it or get points on his license. (Or fight it out in court with little chance of proving his innocence but a large chance of increasing the penalty still further.)

All his costs, direct and indirect, should be refunded to him.

I have used (square) brackets and they have been included in quotes many times without problems - Streaky

PS - there are no such things as "round brackets", they are parentheses - S

I know. But some people don't, and clarity, not precision, was my aim.

Surely its an offence somewhere to impose a fine/summons on someone who is innocent?

As a copper might say in a parallel universe, we as drivers don't make the rules, we just stick to them and if you your job and falsely accuse someone of breaking them then expect to pay out in a big way for your mistake. Look on the bright side though, sonny, quite often people will accept your ups without complaining and even go as far as paying the fine and taking the penalty points. But there's got to be the odd case that's made an example of, otherwise we'd just have a free for all.

On your way now, and don't do it again.

Of course he should get re-imbursed in full for all costs with the Speed Course thrown in for free - especially if it ist like Lancs und teaching COAST at least wink He should also get double all expenses, including the course refund plus compo -with backdated accrued interest at the very least as re-imbursement ist not compensation wink This compo should be paid within 28 days or he gt £5000 in compo und the SCP manager get 6 points on his licence as penalty for failing to compensate within the required time winkwhistlewink
