520d New Car

Dear All,

I'm a newbie to the site and was after some info.

I'm due to change my Company Car in the New Year and on paper am very impressed with the 520d AUTO (emissions, standard equip, looks) I cant find any info on the Prof Sat Nav option included in the Media package, can anyone give me some feedback on the system does it include full postcode option, good/bad system etc.etc.?

I've got a 320d coming on demo this weekend and was wondering if the 5 series struggled with power being a bigger car with the same engine?

The E60 doesn't weight a great deal more than an E90 & the M47 engine does have 177bhp so it's OK but not uber rapid & an autobox will have an effect on performance of course. Although I'm biased it's widely acknowledged that the 520d is the best in it's class quick & economical with class.

Could be wrong of course, but I thought that the 520d was manual only and you had to go for a bigger diesel to get the option of the autobox. Maybe they have changed things, but it made sense with the 6-speed box and the 170+BHP engine. In fact, performance concerns aside - its almost exactly the same performance as the old E39 525d they did - but its a bucket more economical!

Bit of win / win situation if emissions and fuel consumption are concerns (which are with a company car).

The 520d is a great car, mine is an M Sport Auto and has the old 163 engine.

The only critisim is there is a slight delay when you boot it from a standing start, hopefully this will be different with the new engine.

It's not all win/win - it's only got 4 cylinders.

Behave.... not everyone can get away with paying £300 a month in tax because they have a 6 cylinder motor....

Actually, I have driven one of the 160BHP models and it was pretty good. Ok, its never going to set the world afire, but for what it is (and the price) its a cracking deal. Spec it up with the nice wheels and a dark colour and its a good looker too. It aint that bad.

I dont know about the 5 but you can get the auto on the 320d

I have the BMW prof satnav in my MINI and am specing it on my new 320d its a good system but i dont know how much it has been updated in the new 320d from the older system i have in the MIN

My local dealer is offering free upgrade to Msports on the 5 at the mo, from what I seen this morning driving past.

Might be worth asking for.
