Do " Premium" diesel fuels have any benefit ?

This may have been done before but what is the benefit ( if any ) of the “premium” diesel fuel now being sold ? I can understand the point of higher octane petrol, I always run Optimax ( now V Power ) in the TVR as it lets me run slightly more advance without pinking problems. On more modern engines that have knock sensors they can self adjust for the fuel and get a bit more out of it. Is there a similar argument for compression ignition engines ? I nearly bought some shell premium Diesel by accident today 5p more than the standard stuff. Anybody done any tests ?

Tried a tank of BP Ultimate diesel...

It's like driving a different car. Much smoother and absolutely no sign of rattle..
