Hi has anyone finished the training yet? if so how hard is it to get work?
Thanks.
Is this anything to do with the HIPS thing and all that associated gubbins? Thanks.
Bleugh.
But on the other hand, I do have a colleague in training to be able to asses the aforementioned role along with the rest, she's not finished yet.... She wasn't amused when I sent her the link to the Tory party comment saying they would eradicate HIPS if they came to power.........
yes it's the hips thingy. have a good mate who's just about to chuck a couple of grand at it and has been told earnings of 70k p.a. i said it sounds to good to be true and have seen there are 5 thousand people finished training and another 5k currently in training. just wondered if anyone knew any different. gold rush springs to mind.
I'm of the same opinion and even more concerned as the chum that's doing all this training (has another exam tomorrow) and her other have has taken a loan out for her to pay for the cost of the course. She's Polish and has been living here for about 2 years, which means she still can't get a mortgage/loans etc and I worry she's pinning her hopes on this.
That and at the mo she's taking a week off every month to train and I have to cover her workload lol.

ive just been working with an electrician for the past 8 weeks who has qualified and is carrying out reports. he gets between £80-£125 depending on who he does them for (energy report). and he hasnt been getting much work from his initial 6k investment to train. goldrush does seem to be the word here. but certainly an empty pan if you ask me.
firstly he has to travel to the job, then carry out the survey, then fill the report out online of which he has to pay £8 every time for the privelidge!
home condition reports are more in depth and profitable with around £300 for each survey, not sure on the training cost though. my friend spent 6k which i think was for both.

had more of a look and last yr 1.8 million homes were put on the market. that's 34 thousand homes a wk next yr that will need an energy assessment. sounds a lot until you think about how many people will be trained to do them, currently 5k another 5k nearly trained with between 400-500 people signing up for courses every month. even if it stayed at 10k that's only 3.4 a wk each. the home condition report is voluntary so can't think many people will be having that done! so it's going to be very very competitive. saw a guy advertising at my local shops that will do a 3-4 bed house for £230 + vat so basically he's doing it for £30 already.

Agreed. The people making the fast buck are the people organising the training courses!
£2000 a hit times 10,000 trainees is £20mil!
It really does not amount to much more than a 'get rich quick' type franchise, and I feel as you do the 'market' is going to be completely saturated. Its not as if there arnt any sparkies and the like who would be quite glad of the profitable work too, and do that as an extra service...
