Is there an easy / quick way to upgrade the front brakes ?

My 390 has Granada calipers & vented disks. Is it possible to fit bigger / better calipers and bigger disks off something else eg a Mondeo ST or a Jag ?

I had a Dolly Sprint (127bhp as standard) for years which had Dolly 1300 (40bhp) brakes as standard - somebody came up with a bracket that allowed you to fit Sierra vented disks - the whole thing including recon caliper, bracket and new disks cost around £80.

Is there a similar option raiding other manufacturer's parts bin for wedges ?

cheers, Richard.

My car has the Princess 4pot calipers on it. There are some isues with discs for this setup, but its quite good.

Better still is to fit wither a HiSpec kit, or wilwoods, or any of the other brake manufacturers kits.

You're right tho, the cortina calipers arent up to the job!

You could contact the manufacturers direct, or could contact Tower View Race services. They're prety good, and arent hardcore salesmen.

I have read a lot of bad storys about hispec, plus wait times can be very long, they may have inproved, but the main problem is the attitude of the owner, so would go with wilwoods, or if you have the money AP do a kit.

I have the AP kit on the race car and they are very impressive.

Agree with Leigh about Hi Spec....take a look at this and make your own mind up.

Deja vu

We seem to have said all this recently... I think.

Yes, serious reservations about customer service, rather than the product, but TVR carparts are an agent and have an excellent reputation. So I'd be looking to buy through them rather than direct.

I was hoping somebody would say something like use Cossie disks and calipers ... is there another car we can pinch bits off rather than buy AP / wilwood stuff ?
cheers, Richard.

My 450 SE has been fitted with lightweight Porsche brake callipers with grooved and drilled discs by the previous owner. There are also 18" oxigin alloys.

I have not tried the brakes to any great extent - the car does stop, albeit, the pedal travel is long before any effect is felt.

I am sorry I do not have any technical details of how they were fitted, but please let me know if you believe I might be able to provide more information.

Willwoods are built down to price and are very poor quality - beware. Used AP stuff comes at sensible money.

When I get the car back, I'll look more closely as to how they are attached
