As we all know, racers are subject to contracts and have to 'play the game' when it comes to speaking to the press. But doesn't it make boring TV?

I give you... Nicky Hayden, Moto GP rider.
Every interview he does sounds the same ... "Awww maaan, the bike was goooood, I rode gooood, the Michelins were goooood, the team did gooood, Honda are gooood"

This is poo. And it's getting worse. Which drivers/riders do you all remember who just said it as it is and damn the consequences?

Remind us of some good old quotes people!

of all people, I bet you didn't expect me to give a Kimi Raikonnen quote, huh? Mr dry himself actually came up with this on live TV (on Brundle's grid walk)

MB: So kimi, did you see Schumacher's lifetime achievement presentation at this, his final ever grand prix?

KR: No, I was having a shit.

David Coulthard
At some race mid season (2007), during a section of in-car radio

ENGINEER: "David, how is the car?"
COULTHARD: "It's swapping between oversteer and understeer. The tyres are knackered. And the engine's down on power. Apart from that, everything's fine..."

The nearest I've heard to a full-on team assault in the last 15 years are from;

Prost - referring to Honda giving him engines with about 79bhp
Mansell - referring to the fact that his Ferrari always retired and Prost's didn't. He said something like..."I've got to be careful here, but one car always finishes and the other doesn't"

Senna in Japan in '91, after winning the championship, in a massive tirade against JM Balestre, Prost, circuit officials, the world...and explaining what the world knew about the previous year's Japanese GP. Electrifying stuff

The WRC guys sometimes get close. Solberg's face has told quite a story this last couple of years even if he won't say anything. Marcus Gronholm is usually good for a quote - "I'm FED UP with this car" from his Peugeot 307 days. How about Carlos Sainz (I think) throwing his helmet, smashing the tailgate of his Corlloa when it let him down yards from winning the championship?

That was understandable though; all he had to do was drive it over the finish to win the title and it let him down IN SIGHT of the finish. I thought he restrained himself, to be honest hehe

Tho it's not a driver vs team thing.... the BTCC lads dont mind telling each other what's what.

Plato always seemed to wait until his victim was being interviews before he'd jump in with "you should've have a licence"

Plato a media whore? Never! biggrin

Gronholm is usually a mine of great moments. Two of my favourites were the (Argentine?) Rally where he was disqualified and grabbed the notification, screwed it up and pretended to wipe his ar*e and the Rally GB a couple of years ago where he lost a wheel and the police stopped him on the road section. He kept trying to convince the copper that he was right and could carry on!

What about Alain Prost comparing his Ferrari to a truck? I believe that Enzo Ferrari fired him for that one.

And another thing... (rant coming!)

I first noticed Alonso a few seasons back saying things like "for sure the car was good, but we know for sure that we have to do better and for sure it means working harder next week, for sure...." (get my drift)

Now every-bloomin-one is at it! I can't remember the last f1 interview i heard without the phrase "for sure" in it - drives me up the flippin wall!!
