A friend of mine has recently bought a bike with a stupidly tiny number plate. After being fined £30 on three occaisions (in the 2 weeks he has owned the bike) he has decided to get a legal number plate. What is the minimum size for a motorcycle number?

At the moment it is 2 inches in height.....

I believe the minimum height of each character is 64 millimetres for a bike, tractor and the like...79mm for a car etc

Just go to Halfords n get 1 made, it will be legal.
Cops are trying to be more tolerant with bikers, I've never been pulled for my mirror visor or race can.

My pal on an almost identical bike got pulled for a small plate and they did him for everything they could find.

Serves the tt right, I warned him about small plates. Cops dont find them amusing.

Mine's 11 inches by 3.

(Oh my word that sounds bad, like, I wish it was if you know what I mean biggrin )

Anyways, I've never been pulled by Plod despite the plate, and the extremely loud carbon cans I have on the bike.

I think it's a case of not taking the p1ss too much. I just make sure I don't gun it whenever I see plod around, or ride up and down the roads making it go very loud!

Looking at that there is no minimum size for the "Plate" as long as the characters are of the correct size

you have a minimum size be default,
size of letters + spacing + margins = lenght
height of letters + margins(+makers advert?) = height

exact lenght will depend on registration, a 1 for example will reduce the width, as could a short personalised number
