First long m/w drive and took it steady to achieve "respectable" mpg.

At "30mi to empty" got the little petrol pump icon coming up (very nice) and by journey's end the dial needle was in the red and said "14mi to empty".

However brimmed her this morning and only managed to get 50L into the thing - uhhh???

Mines an 05 model (Monaro) but came with the Jan04 handbook. At the back it says the tank capacity is 75L - BUT IS IT?

My '05 CV8 has a 60litre tank despite the handbook and sales brochure both saying 75litre.

Ok, but how come the maximum I can ever get in when virtually running on vapours is literally 60litres? Surely I can't have an airlock?

There's probably a fair bit of a reserve in the car.

I've a facelift (only room for one body in the boot) and I regularly have seen 60-65 litres going into mine and I normally run it down to approx 30miles or so remaining on the display (as the bloody petrol prices over here change daily and being a tight fisted Scotsman I like to get my money's worth) biggrin

Once you get the click, if you pull the nozzle out the tube and just sit in in the top section that's open to the outside world you can normally still get another 5 litres or so into the car (I've done this on many occasions when I'm about to head off on a particularly long trip like when I left Ireland to go to Scotland-England-Germany, the fuel was dirt cheap in the Rep of Ireland so I filled it right up as far as it would go so I didn't get raped in NI with the extortionate prices that are charged there on my way over)...

Nope, I've gone into the computer using Mode etc and it's shown on a really bad day (ie display really flashing) 1.2 litres left in the tank. Then filled up and only squeezed in just over 60 litres.

Done all the 'go to the first click' at the petrol pump and then tried to trickle feed more in and never got more than 60.8 litres in.

So either I'm doing something wrong or the local welsh petrol pumps dispense their own unique interpretation of 'litres'.

There was a thread on this a while back (I did a search but can't find it) - sometimes the tank appears full (you can't squeeze any more fuel in) but the level gauge shows only 3/4 full. Happens on some, not on others, happens on mine all the time except pump 4 at the BP gagarge in Windsor??!!confused

And about a dozen times on my old cv8. When its mind was made up nothing you could do would coax any more fuel in. Always gauge showing three quarters full and the pump meter asking for alot less dough than I was expecting.

9 mile of fuel left, needle on empty, still only fitted 60 l in at Tesco.
I think I'll have to run it dry just to see how many mile is left after 0 miles displayed and tank showing very empty.....
not...
I wonder if the tank sensor is nonlinear!

how much fuel does the standard basket in the tank hold - wasn't there talk of fitting a higher capacity one to lessen chances of pump having too little fuel to push through when running at warp factor 8?

I have driven 5 miles with 0 miles to go. The needle was definitely pointing south. Isn't it annoying when Tescos pay at pump £60 limit doesn't fill up the tank!

Filled up mine today - 55km's remaining on the display and she took 63.4litres from the pump at 1.42euro a litre...not much change back from the 100 euro note I handed over... frown
