HID's on a Defender ?
Discussion
Fitted to mine. Got them off e-bay. MOT was easy.....no problems.just as long as they are set at the right height they are fine. I thought there would be issues as they do not have washers etc that have to be fitted to cars with HID..........however this is only to get Single Vehicle Approval and the MOT is different.
Sorry for the quality of the pics but the following were taken with a mobile phone. And you can quite clearly see the far superior light discharge from HID,s.More than a decent improvement on the O.E candles fitted.

To get the best results from these, you really need to change the headlamps as well to the wipac versions, which offer a crystal reflector and clear lense. The only adjustments needed was to flick the light switch setting down to three from inside the LR.If its on the older model, you will need a screw driver and adjust it manually.

Thats the wipac versions. And i only replaced the headlamp units themselves. The HID,s were bought from a fella at work who was punting them out by the box load.Every one at work now drives around with them.Did you replace the h/l bodies with these....

And they have been fitted to XK8,XJR,s BMW,s Audis, and others with out any problems what so ever.I paid £60 for the kit i have, and is quite clearly of Chinese manufacture due to the bad english on the box.But the quality of the kits themselves i would put on par with the German made units. The ballast boxs and the wiring and connections are of superior quality. There is a firm selling the exact same kit i have called HID,s-direct for £80(do a google search for the firm).I,ve only done the normal headlights.I.E not dipped beam.Hope i,ve been of some help.Furyous said:
Now Im confused.Been looking at this a bit more in depth recently.
How does it work ? The HID burner replaces the H4 bulb yes ?
But the HID is not twin filament like an H4 ?
There isnt room for 2 bulb holders, so wtf ?
Confused of Tring.
Right. Here goes.In each kit will come a pair of HID bulbs and a pair of ballast boxes. These are plug and play systems. What you do then,is take out your old H4.And then place your HID bulb in to the lense. On the other end of the loom, there will be a plug. This plugs in to the vehicles loom that originaly went to your H4 bulb. Its as simple as that. The bulbs normally come with a main fillament, and another one running underneath, that gives the dip,or (flash)facility.More expensive H4,s employ a motorised unit. That flicks a sleeve 180o to give the dipped effect. How does it work ?
