music in a wedge....
Discussion
Now I realise the engine note is music in itself but as this is my only car there are times when I've got to do some long journeys...
I quite like the Idea of kitting it out with some (simple) audio... I'm going to get an alpine h/u that can connect to the ipod that'll go in the glove box... the problem I have is with speakers.. At the moment the previous owner has butchered the rear bit with a couple of pioneer speakers going into the boot. I'm wondering if it would be possible to get a small sub in the back shelf bit inbetween the speakers, amped up and if this would work? and then am struggling with the front speakers.... They will probably have to stay where they are (In the back) as a door build isn't something I want to start playing with... has anyone tried anything that does or doesn't work? Im not looking for horrible bass for dance music or anything.... Just something that'll kick out my hefty collection of 70's rock over the exhaust without turning into nasty distorted mess!
Cheers in advance!

I've just bought a very cheap DVD player (don't tell anyone but it's a Ripspeed.... oh the shame!)
Currently used in the Mondeo (more shame) but was thinking of a second one for the Wedge.
The key feature of this is I can store 4.7 Gigs of mp3 (which is more music than I own) on one disk and I don't have to mess with CD changers or external players, wires, chargers, interfacing etc.
I won't recommend my DVD-722B solely because the paint flakes off of the buttons so it looks ugly after a month, but in every other respect it is fantastic. Sound is excellent through 4 Sony 50W speakers and the base fidelity/volume is limited by the resonance of the car interior so I doubt a sub would add much. If you so desire you can play DVDs from any region. It also plays jpeg slide shows and you can also hook up external camera and displays. Reversing camera anyone? or a camera to see how close the chin spoiler is getting to the kerb? The now shabby appearance of the buttons is less likely to attract the envious attentions of a tea-leaf.
One Wedge related ICE tip is storing the roof panel horizontally in the boot will mess up mounting amps subs etc high up on the back of the boot/cabin bulkhead. (que quip about "what roof panel" etc..)

I'm sure mounting a sub in the rear bulkhead would make use of the boot as a base reflex cabinet just fine.
Other thoughts that spring to mind are.
The speaker positions at either end of the parcel shelf are prone to being muted by stuff on the shelf and I happen to know from personal experience that enthusiastic changes of direction can result in denting of the speaker grill from sliding parcels resulting in a nasty grating noise, so a strong grill would be best.
Probably the best setup of all would be attaching a microphone, placed suitably near the exhaust, to a 1000W amp and some chuffing big speakers brum brum LOL.

Right, bought myself an alpine 9885, so head unit sorted. The speakers currently going through to the boot are 8 inch jobbies, so thinking get rid of those, fit 2x 8 inch subs, amped up, and then fit what ever size the comps are at either side of the parcel shelf, and def know what you mean about strong mesh!
They'll be amped too, with seperate tweets mounted somewhere!
Awesome... I think! new to all this so who knows!
