S1 Drive shafts

I had the pleasure of doing a very hairy (wet) Cadwell Park trackday yesterday, with no mishaps, but plenty of buttock squeezing moments. Anyhow, the rear passenger side drive shaft has rumbled away under hard acceleration in lower gears for some time now, and yesterday did not seem to help matters. My white knuckled co pilot yesterday certainly thought so, but maybe he was concerned about the thought of a half shaft appearing up his rectum, sharpended his attention to the potential problem?

Could anybody tell me what the joints are on the half shafts? I have read somewhere that the outer CV joints are from a Ford Granada, what are the inner ones? The shaft has a 4 bolt flange where it connects to the differential.

Hi Mark, I recently had problems with my O/S drive shaft. Previous owner had tried to undo it but it's a lefthanded thread so it damaged the shafts threads. What a problem it caused me getting it off, I ended up grinding the 41mm nut off had the shaft turned down re-threaded(left)then a new nut made to 41mm with a smaller thread. Anyway the reason I have to do this was because I was unable to get a replacement I tried everywhere. I have found that the drive shafts are Sierra or early XR4i, hope this info helps ?
